Genesis

Genesis 1
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide fattened the sky and the land in a former state, yet the land was revealed unseen and unready; darkness on the face of the watery deep.
Now the wind of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide fluttered over the face of the waters, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Light, be revealed! And light was revealed. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw the light, and saw that it was functional. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide divided the light from the darkness. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide called the light day, and the darkness he called night. Evening was revealed and morning was revealed, day one.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Expanse in the middle of the waters, be revealed! And waters separating from waters were revealed. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide made the expanse, separating between the waters which were under the expanse from between the waters which were on the expanse. And so it was revealed. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide called the expanse sky. Evening was revealed and morning was revealed, a second day.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Waters under the sky, flow together to one place, and the dry-area shall be seen. In this way it was revealed. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide called the dry-area land, and the gathering together of the waters he called seas. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw that it was functional. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Land, cause your vegetation to vegetate; herbage sowing seed from a fruit tree, making fruit with his kind of seed in him on the land. In this way it was revealed. The land, she brought forth vegetation, herbage sowing seed for his kind, and a tree making fruit with his kind of seed in him; and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw that it was functional. Evening was revealed and morning was revealed, a third day.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Luminaries in the expanse of the sky, be revealed so as to divide the day from the night; and they were revealed for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years. And they were revealed for luminaries in the expanse of the sky to give light on the land. In this way they were revealed. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide made the two great luminaries: the greater luminary to rule the day, and the lesser luminary to rule the night; and the stars. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide set them in the expanse of sky to give light to the land, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw that it was functional. Evening was revealed and morning was revealed, a fourth day.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Roam shall the waters roam with stomach-filled breathing-throats, and the flyers shall fly above the land in the face of the open expanse of the sky. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide fattened the large sea creatures, and every stomach-filled breathing-throat that moves, with which the waters roamed, after their kind, and every winged flyer after his kind. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw that it was functional. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide kneeled-to-give to them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let flyers multiply on the land. Evening was revealed and morning was revealed, a fifth day.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Land, produce stomach-filled breathing-throats after her kind, livestock, moving animal, and land animals after her kind. In this way it was revealed. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide made the land animals after her kind, and the livestock after their kind, and every moving animal of the ground after his kind. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw that it was functional.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flyers of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the land, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the land. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide fattened man in his own image. In the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s image he fattened him; male and female he fattened them. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide kneeled-to-give to them. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, fill the land, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the flyers of the sky, and over every stomach-filled thing that moves on the land. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Behold, I give you both every herb seeding seed, which is on the face of all the land, and every tree, which has in it fruit seeding seed. It is revealed for food for you both. To every land animal, and to every flyer of the sky, and to everything that creeps on the land, in which there is a stomach-filled breathing-throat, I have given every green herb for food. In this way was revealed.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very functional. Evening was revealed and morning was revealed, a sixth day.
Genesis 2
The skies and the land were finished, and all their vast array. On the sixth day the Strongest-Yoked-Guide finished his work which he had made; and he entered-into-the-tent on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide kneeled-to-give to the seventh day, and made it separated, because he entered-into-the-tent in it from all his work which he had fattened and made.
This is the history of the circles-of-men of the skies and the land when they were fattened, in the day that Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide made the land and the skies. And before every plant of the field was revealed in the land, and before any herb of the field had yet sprouted, Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had not caused it to rain on the land; and there was not a man to serve the ground, but a mist went up from the land, and the whole face of the ground drank. Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide formed man from the dust of the ground, and blew into his nostrils the wind of a filled-stomach; and man was revealed a stomach-filled breathing-throat.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide planted a garden eastward, in Odan, and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight, and functional for food; the tree of the filled-stomach also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of function and dysfunction.
A river went out of Odan for the garden to drink; and from there it was parted, and was revealed four heads. The name of the first is Phishun: this is the one which flows through the whole land of Chuile, where there is gold; and the gold of that land is functional. There is aromatic resin and the onyx stone. The name of the second river is Gichun: the same river that flows through the whole land of Kush. The name of the third river is Chadaqal: this is the one which flows in front of Ashur. The fourth river is the Pharath.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide took the man, and put him into the garden of Odan to dress it and to guard it.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide directed the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of function and dysfunction, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely empty-the-stomach.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, It is not functional that the man should be revealed alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him. Out of the ground Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide formed every animal of the field, and every flyer of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the stomach-filled throat-breathing man called it, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock, and to the flyers of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. He made the rib, which Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her to the man.
The man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore a man will leave his tent-supporter and his strong-womb, and will join with his woman, and they will be revealed as one flesh.
They were both revealed naked, the man and his woman, and were not ashamed.
Genesis 3
Now the serpent was revealed more subtle than any animal of the field which Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had made. He said to the woman, Has the Strongest-Yoked-Guide really said, You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?
The woman said to the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you empty-the-stomach.
The serpent said to the woman, You won’t surely empty-the-stomach, for the Strongest-Yoked-Guide knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be revealed like the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, knowing function and dysfunction.
When the woman saw that the tree was functional for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her man with her, and he ate.
The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. They heard the voice of Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide walking in the garden in the windy part of the day, and the man and his woman hid themselves from the face of Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide among the trees of the garden.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide called to the man, and said to him, Where are you?
The man said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I directed you not to eat from?
The man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to the woman, What is this you have done?
The woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. On your abdomen you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your filled-stomach.
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.
To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your pain in your pregnancy. In pain you will produce tent-builders. Your desire will be for your man, and he will rule over you.
To Adam he said, Because you have listened to your woman’s voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I directed you, saying,You shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your filled-stomach. It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
The man called his woman Chue, because she was revealed the strong-womb of all filled-stomachs. Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide made coats of skins for Adam and for his woman, and clothed them.
Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, Behold, the man has been revealed like one of us, knowing function and dysfunction. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of the filled-stomach, and eat, and fill-the-stomach to the horizon...
Therefore Ieue the Strongest-Yoked-Guide sent him out from the garden of Odan, to till the ground from which he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed Cherubs at the east of the garden of Odan, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of the filled-stomach.
Genesis 4
The man intimately knew Chue his woman. She conceived, and produced Qin, and said, I have gotten a man with Ieue’s help. Again she produced Qin’s male-strong-protector Ebal. Ebal was a shepherd of sheep, but Qin was a server of the ground.
It was revealed from the end of days that Qin brought an offering to Ieue from the fruit of the ground. Ebal also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Ieue respected Ebal and his offering, but he didn’t respect Qin and his offering. Qin was very nose-flared, and the expression on his face fell.
Ieue said to Qin, Why are you nose-flared? Why has the expression of your face fallen? If you do well, will it not be lifted up? If you don’t do well, the missed-target crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.
Qin said to Ebal, his male-strong-protector, Let’s go into the field. It was reveaked when they were revealed in the field, that Qin rose up against Ebal, his male-strong-protector, and killed him.
Ieue said to Qin, Where is Ebal, your male-strong-protector?
He said, I don’t know. Am I my male-strong-protector’s guardian?
Ieue said, What have you done? The voice of your male-strong-protector’s blood cries to me from the ground. Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your male-strong-protector’s blood from your hand. From now on, when you till the ground, it won’t yield its strength to you. You shall be revealed a fugitive and a wanderer in the land.
Qin said to Ieue, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be revealed a fugitive and a wanderer in the land. It will be revealed that whoever finds me will kill me.
Ieue said to him, Therefore whoever slays Qin, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold. Ieue appointed a sign for Qin, lest any finding him should strike him.
Qin went out from Ieue’s face, and filled-the-stomach in the land of Nud, east of Odan.
Qin intimately knew his woman. She conceived, and produced Chanuk. A city he built was revealed, and called the name of the city, after the name of his male-tent-continuer, Chanuk. To Chanuk was produced Oirad. Oirad produced Machuial. Machuiial produced Mathushal. Mathushal produced Lamak.
Lamak took two women: the name of the one was Ode, and the name of the other Tzale. Ode produced Ibal, who wasrevealed the tent-supporter of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. His male-strong-protector’s name was Iubal, who was revealed the tent-supporter of all who handle the harp and pipe. Tzale also produced Thubal-Qin, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron. Thubal-Qin’s female-strong-protector was Nome.
Lamak said to his women, Ode and Tzale, hearken to my voice. You women of Lamak, give ear to my speech, for I have slain a man for wounding me, a young man for bruising me. If Qin will be avenged seven times, truly Lamak seventy-seven times.
Adam intimately knew his woman again. She produced a male-tent-continuer, and named him Shath, For the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has appointed me another seed instead of Ebal, for Qin killed him. There was also produced a male-tent-continuer to Shath, and he named him Anush. Then men began to call on Ieue’s name.
Genesis 5
This is the mouth-support of the circles-of-men of Adam. In the day that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide fattened man, he made him in the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s likeness. He fattened them male and female, and kneeled-to-give to them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were fattened.
Adam filled-the-stomach one hundred thirty years, and produced a male-tent-continuer in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Shath. The days of Adam after he produced Shath were revealed eight hundred years, and he produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days that Adam filled-the-stomach were revealed nine hundred thirty years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Shath filled-the-stomach one hundred five years, and produced Anush. Shath filled-the-stomach after he produced Anush eight hundred seven years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Shath were revealed nine hundred twelve years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Anush filled-the-stomach ninety years, and produced Qinan. Anush filled-the-stomach after he produced Qinan, eight hundred fifteen years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Anush were revealed nine hundred five years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Qinan filled-the-stomach seventy years, and produced Melalal. Qinan filled-the-stomach after he produced Melalal eight hundred forty years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers and all the days of Qinan were revealed nine hundred ten years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Melalal filled-the-stomach sixty-five years, and produced Irad. Melalal filled-the-stomach after he produced Irad eight hundred thirty years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Melalal were revealed eight hundred ninety-five years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Irad filled-the-stomach one hundred sixty-two years, and produced Chanuk. Irad filled-the-stomach after he produced Chanuk eight hundred years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Irad were revealed nine hundred sixty-two years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Chanuk filled-the-stomach sixty-five years, and produced Mathushalach. Chanuk walked with the Strongest-Yoked-Guide after he produced Mathushalach three hundred years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Chanuk were revealed three hundred sixty-five years. Chanuk walked with the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, and he was not, for the Strongest-Yoked-Guide took him.
Mathushalach filled-the-stomach one hundred eighty-seven years, and produced Lamak. Mathushalach filled-the-stomach after he produced Lamak seven hundred eighty-two years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Mathushalach were revealed nine hundred sixty-nine years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Lamak filled-the-stomach one hundred eighty-two years, and produced a male-tent-continuer, and he named him Nach, saying, This one will comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, because of the ground which Ieue has cursed. Lamak filled-the-stomach after he produced Nach five hundred ninety-five years, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers. All the days of Lamak were revealed seven hundred seventy-seven years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Nach was revealed five hundred years old, and Nach produced Sham, Cham, and Iphath.
Genesis 6
It was revealed, when men began to multiply on the face of the ground, and female-tent-continuers were produced to them, that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s male-tent-continuers saw that men’s female-tent-continuers were beautiful, and they took for themselves women of all that they chose. Ieue said, My wind will not strive with man to the horizon, because he also is flesh; yet will his days be revealed one hundred twenty years. The Naphalim were revealed in the land in those days, and also after that, when the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s male-tent-continuers came in to men’s female-tent-continuers. They produced tent-builders to them. Those were the high-headed men who were of old, men of renown.
Ieue saw that the wickedness of man was great in the land, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his inner-guide was only dysfunctional continually. Ieue was sorry that he had made man on the land, and it grieved him in his inner-guide. Ieue said, I will destroy man whom I have fattened from the face of the ground; man, along with animals, creeping things, and flyers of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them. But Nach found encampment in Ieue’s eyes.
This is the history of the circles-of-men of Nach. Nach was revealed a straight-pathed man, blameless among the people of his time. Nach walked with the Strongest-Yoked-Guide. Nach produced three male-tent-continuers: Sham, Cham, and Iphath. The land was corrupt before the face of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, and the land was filled with violence. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide saw the land, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the land.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to Nach, The end of all flesh has come before me, for the land is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the land. Make an ark of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ark, and shall shelter it inside and outside with a sheltering. This is how you shall make it. The length of the ark will be three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a roof in the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit upward. You shall set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels. I, even I, do bring the flood of waters on this land, to destroy all flesh having the wind of a filled-stomach from under the sky. Everything that is in the land will empty-the-stomach. But I will set up my pieces-to-pass-through with you. You shall come into the ark, you, your male-tent-continuers, your woman, and your male-tent-continuers’ women with you. Of every stomach-filled thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to preserve them stomach-filled with you. They shall be revealed male and female. Of the flyers after their kind, of the livestock after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them stomach-filled. Take with you of all food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be revealed food for you, and for them.
Thus Nach did. According to all that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide directed him, so he did.
Genesis 7
Ieue said to Nach, Come with all of your household into the ark, for I have seen your straight-pathedness before me in this circle-of-men. You shall take seven pairs of every clean animal with you, the male and his female. Of the animals that are not clean, take two, the male and his female. Also of the flyers of the sky, seven and seven, male and female, to keep seed stomach-filled on the face of all the land. In seven days, I will cause it to rain on the land for forty days and forty nights. Every stomach-filled thing that I have made, I will destroy from the face of the ground.
Nach did everything that Ieue directed him.
Nach was six hundred years old when the flood of waters were revealed on the land. Nach went into the ark with his male-tent-continuers, his woman, and his male-tent-continuers’ women, because of the waters of the flood. Clean animals, animals that are not clean, flyers, and everything that creeps on the ground went by pairs to Nach into the ark, male and female, as the Strongest-Yoked-Guide directed Nach. It was revealed after the seven days, that the waters of the flood were revealed on the land. In the six hundredth year of Nach’s filled-stomach, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the watery deep were burst open, and the sky’s windows were opened. The rain was revealed on the land forty days and forty nights.
In the same day Nach, and Sham, Cham, and Iphath, the male-tent-continuers of Nach, and Nach’s woman, and the three women of his male-tent-continuers with them, entered into the ark; they, and every animal after its kind, all the livestock after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the land after its kind, and every flyer after its kind, every flyer of every sort. They went to Nach into the ark, by pairs of all flesh with the wind of a filled-stomach in them. Those who went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as the Strongest-Yoked-Guide directed him; and Ieue shut him in. The flood was revealed forty days on the land. The waters increased, and lifted up the ark, and it was lifted up above the land. The waters prevailed, and increased greatly on the land; and the ark floated on the face of the waters. The waters prevailed exceedingly on the land. All the high mountains that were under the whole sky were covered. The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered. All flesh emptied-the-stomach that moved on the land, including flyers, livestock, animals, every roaming animal that roams on the land, and every man. All in whose nostrils was the wind of a filled-stomach, of all that was on the drained area, emptied-the-stomach. Every stomach-filled thing was destroyed that was on the face of the ground, including man, livestock, creeping things, and flyers of the sky. They were destroyed from the land. Only Nach was left, and those who were with him in the ark. The waters prevailed on the land one hundred fifty days.
Genesis 8
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide remembered Nach, all the animals, and all the livestock that were with him in the ark; and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide made a wind to pass over the land. The waters subsided. The springs of the watery deep and the sky’s crevices were also stopped, and the rain from the sky was restrained. The waters receded from the land continually. After the end of one hundred fifty days the waters decreased. The ark entered-into-the-tent in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on Ararat’s mountains. The waters revealed to go and abate until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.
It was revealed at the end of forty days, that Nach opened the porthole of the ark which he had made, and he sent out a raven. It went back and forth, until the waters were dried up from the land. He sent out a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from the face of the ground, but the dove found no place for her foot to enter-into-the-tent, and she returned to him into the ark; for the waters were on the face of the whole land. He put out his hand, and took her, and brought her to him into the ark. He stayed yet another seven days; and again he sent the dove out of the ark. The dove came back to him at evening, and, behold, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off. So Nach knew that the waters were abated from the land. He stayed yet another seven days, and sent out the dove; and she didn’t return to him any more.
It was revealed in the six hundred first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from the land. Nach removed the covering of the ark, and looked. He saw that the face of the ground was dried. In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the land was dry.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide spoke to Nach, saying, Go out of the ark, you, and your woman, and your male-tent-continuers, and your male-tent-continuers’ women with you. Bring out with you every stomach-filled thing that is with you of all flesh, including flyers, livestock, and every creeping thing that creeps on the land, that they may breed abundantly in the land, and be fruitful, and multiply on the land.
Nach went out, with his male-tent-continuers, his woman, and his male-tent-continuers’ women with him. Every animal, every creeping thing, and every flyer, whatever moves on the land, after their families, went out of the ark.
Nach built an altar to Ieue, and took of every clean animal, and of every clean flyer, and offered ascent offerings on the altar. Ieue smelled the pleasant aroma. Ieue said in his inner-guide, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake, because the imagination of man’s inner-guide is dysfunctional from his youth; neither will I ever again strike everything that is stomach-filled, as I have done. While the land remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Genesis 9
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide kneeled-to-give to Nach and his male-tent-continuers, and said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the land. The gut-flowing-before you and the dread of you will be on every animal of the land, and on every flyer of the sky. Everything that the ground teems with, and all the fish of the sea are delivered into your hand. Every moving thing that fills-the-stomach will be food for you. As the green herb, I have given everything to you. But flesh with its breathing throat, its blood, you shall not eat. I will surely require your blood of your breathing-throats. At the hand of every animal I will require it. At the hand of man, even at the hand of every man’s male-strong-protector, I will require the breathing-throat of man. Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood will be shed by man, for the Strongest-Yoked-Guide made man in his own image. Be fruitful and multiply. Increase abundantly in the land, and multiply in it.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide spoke to Nach and to his male-tent-continuers with him, saying, As for me, behold, I set up my pieces-to-pass-through with you, and with your offspring after you, and with every stomach-filled breathing-throat that is with you: the flyers, the livestock, and every animal of the land with you, of all that go out of the ark, even every animal of the land. I will set up my pieces-to-pass-through with you: all flesh will not be cut off any more by the waters of the flood, neither will there ever again be a flood to destroy the land. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, This is the token of the pieces-to-pass-through which I make between me and you and every stomach-filled breathing-throat that is with you, for horizonal circles-of-men: I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be for a sign of a pieces-to-pass-through between me and the land. It will happen, when I bring a cloud over the land, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud, and I will remember my pieces-to-pass-through, which is between me and you and every stomach-filled breathing-throat of all flesh, and the waters will no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. The rainbow will be in the cloud. I will look at it, that I may remember the horizonal pieces-to-pass-through between the Strongest-Yoked-Guide and every stomach-filled breathing-throat of all flesh that is on the land. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to Nach, This is the token of the pieces-to-pass-through which I have established between me and all flesh that is on the land.
The male-tent-continuers of Nach who went out from the ark were Sham, Cham, and Iphath. Cham is the tent-supporter of Kanon. These three were the male-tent-continuers of Nach, and from these, the whole land was populated.
Nach began to be a farmer, and planted a vineyard. He drank of the wine and got drunk. He was uncovered within his tent. Cham, the tent-supporter of Kanon, saw the nakedness of his tent-supporter, and told his two male-strong-protectors outside. Sham and Iphath took a garment, and laid it on both their shoulders, went in backwards, and covered the nakedness of their tent-supporter. Their faces were backwards, and they didn’t see their tent-supporter’s nakedness. Nach awoke from his wine, and knew what his youngest male-tent-continuer had done to him. He said, Kanon is cursed. He will be servant of servants to his male-strong-protectors.
He said, Knelt-down-and-given-to be Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Sham. Let Kanon be his servant. May the Strongest-Yoked-Guide enlarge Iphath. Let him dwell in the tents of Sham. Let Kanon be his servant.
Nach filled-the-stomach three hundred fifty years after the flood. All the days of Nach were nine hundred fifty years, then he emptied-the-stomach.
Genesis 10
Now this is the history of the circles-of-men of the male-tent-continuers of Nach and of Sham, Cham, and Iphath. Male-Tent-Continuers were produced to them after the flood.
The male-tent-continuers of Iphath: Gamar, Magug, Madi, Iun, Tabal, Mashak, and Tirax. The male-tent-continuers of Gamar: Ashkanaz, Ripat, and Tagarme. The male-tent-continuers of Iun: Alishe, Tarshish, Katim, and Dadanim. Of these were the islands of the nations divided in their lands, everyone after his language, after their families, in their nations.
The male-tent-continuers of Cham: Kush, Matsrim, Puth, and Kanon. The male-tent-continuers of Kush: Saba, Chuile, Sabte, Rome, and Xabatka. The male-tent-continuers of Rome: Shaba and Dadan. Kush produced Namrad. He began to be high-headed in the land. He was a high-headed hunter against Ieue. Therefore it is said, Like Namrad, a high-headed hunter against Ieue. The beginning of his authority-to-guide-the-people was Babal, Arak, Akad, and Kalne, in the land of Shanor. Out of that land he went into Ashur, and built Ninue, Rachabat City, Kalach, and Raxan between Ninue and Kalach (the same is the great city). Matsrim produced Ludim, Onamim, Lebim, Naptachim, Patraxim, Kaxalachim (which the Palashtim descended from), and Kaptarim.
Kanon produced Tsiydon (his firstborn), Cheth, the Yebusiy, the Emoriy, the Girgashiy, the Chivviy, the Arqiy, the Siyniy, the Arvakiy, the Tsemariy, and the Chamathiy. Afterward the families of the Kenaaniy were spread abroad. The border of the Kenaaniy was from Tsiydon, as you go toward Gerar, to Azzah; as you go toward Sedom, Amorah, Admah, and Tseboiym, to Lesha. These are the male-tent-continuers of Cham, after their families, after their languages, in their lands, in their nations.
To Sham, the tent-supporter of all the tent-builders of Eber, the elder male-strong-protector of Iphath, to him also were tent-builders produced. The male-tent-continuers of Sham: Eylam, Ashur, Arpakshad, Lud, and Aram. The male-tent-continuers of Aram: Uts, Chul, Gether, and Mash. Arpakshad produced Shelach. Shelach produced Eber. To Eber were produced two male-tent-continuers. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the land was divided. His male-strong-protector’s name was Yoqtan. Yoqtan produced Almodad, Sheleph, Chatsarmaveth, Yerach, Hadoram, Uzal, Diqlah, Obal, Abiymael, Shaba, Ophir, Chuile, and Yobab. All these were the male-tent-continuers of Yoqtan. Their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east. These are the male-tent-continuers of Sham, after their families, after their languages, in their lands, after their nations.
These are the families of the male-tent-continuers of Nach, after their circles-of-men, in their nations. Of these were the nations divided in the land after the flood.
Genesis 11
The whole land was of one language and of one speech. It happened, as they traveled east, that they found a plain in the land of Shanor, and they filled-the-stomach there. They said one to another, Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly. They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. They said, Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad on the face of the whole land.
Ieue came down to see the city and the tower, which the tent-builders of men built. Ieue said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do. Come, let us go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So Ieue scattered them abroad from there on the face of all the land. They stopped building the city. Therefore its name was called Babal, because there Ieue confused the language of all the land. From there, Ieue scattered them abroad on the face of all the land.
This is the history of the circles-of-men of Sham. Sham was one hundred years old and produced Arpakshad two years after the flood. Sham filled-the-stomach five hundred years after he produced Arpakshad, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Arpakshad filled-the-stomach thirty-five years and produced Shelach. Arpakshad filled-the-stomach four hundred three years after he produced Shelach, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Shelach filled-the-stomach thirty years, and produced Eber: and Shelach filled-the-stomach four hundred three years after he produced Eber, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Eber filled-the-stomach thirty-four years, and produced Peleg. Eber filled-the-stomach four hundred thirty years after he produced Peleg, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Peleg filled-the-stomach thirty years, and produced Reu. Peleg filled-the-stomach two hundred nine years after he produced Reu, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Reu filled-the-stomach thirty-two years, and produced Serug. Reu filled-the-stomach two hundred seven years after he produced Serug, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Serug filled-the-stomach thirty years, and produced Nachor. Serug filled-the-stomach two hundred years after he produced Nachor, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Nachor filled-the-stomach twenty-nine years, and produced Terach. Nachor filled-the-stomach one hundred nineteen years after he produced Terach, and produced male-tent-continuers and female-tent-continuers.
Terach filled-the-stomach seventy years, and produced Abram, Nachor, and Charan.
Now this is the history of the circles-of-men of Terach. Terach produced Abram, Nachor, and Charan. Charan produced Lot. Charan emptied-the-stomach before his tent-supporter Terach in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Kasdiy. Abram and Nachor took women. The name of Abram’s woman was Saray, and the name of Nachor’s woman, Milkah, the female-tent-continuer of Charan who was also the tent-supporter of Yiskah. Saray was barren. She had no tent-builder. Terach took Abram his male-tent-continuer, Lot the male-tent-continuer of Charan, his male-tent-continuer’s male-tent-continuer, and Saray his female-tent-continuer-in-law, his male-tent-continuer Abram’s woman. They went from Ur of the Kasdiy, to go into the land of Kanon. They came to Charan and filled-the-stomach there. The days of Terach were two hundred five years. Terach emptied-the-stomach in Charan.
Genesis 12
Now Ieue said to Abram, Get out of your country, and from your relatives, and from your tent-supporter’s house, to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation. I will kneel-to-give to you and make your name great. You will be knelt-down-and-given-to. I will kneel-to-give to those who kneel-to-give to you, and I will curse him who curses you. All of the families of the ground will be knelt-down-and-given-to in you.
So Abram went, as Ieue had spoken to him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Charan. Abram took Saray his woman, Lot his male-strong-protector’s male-tent-continuer, all their substance that they had gathered, and every breathing-throat whom they had gotten in Charan, and they went to go into the land of Kanon. Into the land of Kanon they came. Abram passed through the land to the place of Shekem, to the oak of Moreh. The Kenaaniy was then in the land.
Ieue appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your seed.
He built an altar there to Ieue, who appeared to him.
He left from there to the mountain on the east of Beythel, and pitched his tent, having Beythel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to Ieue and called on the name of Ieue. Abram traveled, going on still toward the South.
There was a famine in the land. Abram went down into Matsrim to fill-the-stomach as a foreigner there, for the famine was weighty in the land. It happened, when he had come near to enter Matsrim, that he said to Saray his woman, See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman to look at. It will happen, when the Mitsriy will see you, that they will say, This is his woman. They will kill me, but they will deliver you stomach-filled. Please say that you are my female-strong-protector, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that my breathing-throat may fill-the-stomach because of you.
It happened that when Abram had come into Matsrim, the Mitsriy saw that the woman was very beautiful. The princes of Paroh saw her, and praised her to Paroh; and the woman was taken into Paroh’s house. He dealt well with Abram for her sake. He had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels. Ieue plagued Paroh and his house with great plagues because of Saray, Abram’s woman. Paroh called Abram and said, What is this that you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your woman? Why did you say, She is my female-strong-protector, so that I took her to be my woman? Now therefore, see your woman, take her, and go your way.
Paroh directed men concerning him, and they brought him on the way with his woman and all that he had.
Genesis 13
Abram went up out of Matsrim: he, his woman, all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South. Abram was very weighty in livestock, in silver, and in gold. He went on his journeys from the South even to Beythel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beythel and Ai, to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on the name of Ieue. Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. The land was not able to bear them, that they might fill-the-stomach together: for their substance was great, so that they could not fill-the-stomach together. There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock: and the Kenaaniy and the Perizziy filled-the-stomach in the land at that time. Abram said to Lot, Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives. Isn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Yarden, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Ieue destroyed Sedom and Amorah, like the garden of Ieue, like the land of Matsrim, as you go to Tsoar. So Lot chose the Plain of the Yarden for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other. Abram filled-the-stomach in the land of Kanon, and Lot filled-the-stomach in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sedom. Now the men of Sedom were exceedingly wicked and ones who miss-the-target against Ieue.
Ieue said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring to the horizon. I will make your offspring as the dust of the land, so that if a man can number the dust of the land, then your seed may also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you.
Abram moved his tent, and came and filled-the-stomach by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Chebron, and built an altar there to Ieue.
Genesis 14
It happened in the days of Amraphel, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Shanor, Aryok, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Eylam, and Tidal, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Goiim, that they made war with Bera, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Sedom, and with Birsha, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Amorah, Shinab, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Admah, and Shemeber, male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Tseboiym, and the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Bela (the same is Tsoar). All these joined together in the valley of Siddiym (the same is the Salt Sea). Twelve years they served Kedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year, they rebelled. In the fourteenth year Kedorlaomer came, and the male-authorities-that-guide-the-people who were with him, and struck the Raphah in Ashteroth Qarnayim, and the Zuziym in Cham, and the Eymiym in Shaveh Qiryathayim, and the Choriy in their Mount Seiyr, to Eyl Paran, which is by the wilderness. They returned, and came to Eyn Mishpat (the same is Qadesh), and struck all the country of the Amaleqiy, and also the Emoriy, that filled-the-stomach in Chatstson Tamar. The male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Sedom, and the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Amorah, and the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Admah, and the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Tseboiym, and the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Bela (the same is Tsoar) went out; and they set the battle in array against them in the valley of Siddiym; against Kedorlaomer male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Eylam, and Tidal male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Goiim, and Amraphel male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Shanor, and Aryok male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Ellasar; four male-authorities-that-guide-the-people against the five. Now the valley of Siddiym was full of tar pits; and the male-authorities-that-guide-the-people of Sedom and Amorah fled, and they fell there, and those who remained fled to the hills. They took all the goods of Sedom and Amorah, and all their food, and went their way. They took Lot, Abram’s male-strong-protector’s male-tent-continuer, who filled-the-stomach in Sedom, and his goods, and departed.
One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. Now he filled-the-stomach by the oaks of Mamre, the Emoriy, male-strong-protector of Eshkol, and male-strong-protector of Aner; and these were allies of Abram. When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan. He divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them, and pursued them to Chobah, which is on the left hand of Dammeseq. He brought back all the goods, and also brought back his relative, Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
The male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Sedom went out to meet him, after his return from the massacre of Kedorlaomer and the male-authorities-that-guide-the-people who were with him, at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the Male-Authority-That-Guides-The-People’s Valley). Malkiytsedeq male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Shalem brought out bread and wine: and he was priest of the Supreme Strong-Guide. He kneeled-to-give to him, and said, Knelt-down-and-given-to be Abram, belonging to the Supreme Strong-Guide, possessor of the sky and the land. And knelt-down-and-given-to be the Supreme Strong-Guide, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.
Abram gave him a tenth of all.
The male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Sedom said to Abram, Give me the breathing-throats, and take the goods to yourself.
Abram said to the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Sedom, I have lifted up my hand to Ieue, the Supreme Strong-Guide, possessor of the sky and the land, that I will not take a thread nor a sandal strap nor anything that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich. I will accept nothing from you except that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion.
Genesis 15
After these things the word of Ieue came to Abram in a cut-fence, saying, Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.
Abram said, Strongest-Lifebringer Ieue, what will you give me, since I go heirless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliyezer of Dammeseq? Abram said, Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.
Behold, the word of Ieue came to him, saying, This man will not be your heir, but he who will come out of your own bowels will be your heir. Ieue brought him outside, and said, Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them. He said to Abram, So shall your seed be. He supported in Ieue; and he reckoned it to him for straight-pathedness. He said to him, I am Ieue who brought you out of Ur of the Kasdiy, to give you this land to inherit it.
He said, Strongest-Lifebringer Ieue, how will I know that I will inherit it?
He said to him, Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon. He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn’t divide the flyers. The flyers of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him. He said to Abram, Know for sure that your seed will fill-the-stomach as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years. I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth, but you will come to your tent-supporters in completeness. You will be buried in a functional old age. In the fourth circle-of-men they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Emoriy is not yet full. It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. In that day Ieue cut pieces-to-pass-through with Abram, saying, To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Matsrim to the great river, the river Pharath: the Qeyniy, the Qenizziy, the Qadmoniy, the Chittiy, the Perizziy, the Raphah, the Emoriy, the Kenaaniy, the Girgashiy, and the Yebusiy.
Genesis 16
Now Saray, Abram’s woman, produced no tent-builders for him. She had a handmaid, an Mitsriy, whose name was Hagar. Saray said to Abram, See now, Ieue has restrained me from producing. Please go in to my handmaid. It may be that I will obtain tent-builders by her. Abram listened to the voice of Saray. Saray, Abram’s woman, took Hagar the Mitsriy, her handmaid, after Abram had filled-the-stomach ten years in the land of Kanon, and gave her to Abram her man to be his woman. He went in to Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. Saray said to Abram, This wrong is your fault. I gave my handmaid into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes. Ieue judge between me and you.
But Abram said to Saray, Behold, your maid is in your hand. Do to her whatever is functional in your eyes. Saray dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.
The messenger of Ieue found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. He said, Hagar, Saray’s handmaid, where did you come from? Where are you going?
She said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Saray.
The messenger of Ieue said to her, Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands. The messenger of Ieue said to her, I will greatly multiply your seed, that they will not be numbered for multitude. The messenger of Ieue said to her, Behold, you are with tent-builder, and will produce a male-tent-continuer. You shall call his name Yishmael, because Ieue has heard your affliction. He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will fill-the-stomach opposite all of his male-strong-protectors.
She called the name of Ieue who spoke to her, You are a the Strong-Guide who sees me, for she said, Have I even stayed stomach-filled after seeing him? Therefore the well was called Beer Lachay Roiy. Behold, it is between Qadesh and Bered.
Hagar produced a male-tent-continuer for Abram. Abram called the name of his male-tent-continuer, whom Hagar produced, Yishmael. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar produced Yishmael to Abram.
Genesis 17
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Ieue appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Strong-Breasted Strong-Guide. Walk before me, and be blameless. I will make my pieces-to-pass-through between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.
Abram fell on his face. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my pieces-to-pass-through is with you. You will be the tent-supporter of a multitude of nations. Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abarem; for I have made you the tent-supporter of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Male-Authorities-That-Guide-The-People will come out of you. I will establish my pieces-to-pass-through between me and you and your seed after you throughout their circles-of-men for a horizonal pieces-to-pass-through, to be the Strongest-Yoked-Guide to you and to your seed after you. I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Kanon, for a horizonal possession. I will be their Strongest-Yoked-Guide.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to Abarem, As for you, you will keep my pieces-to-pass-through, you and your seed after you throughout their circles-of-men. This is my pieces-to-pass-through, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the pieces-to-pass-through between me and you. He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your circles-of-men, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your seed. He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My pieces-to-pass-through will be in your flesh for a horizonal pieces-to-pass-through. The uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that breathing-throat shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my pieces-to-pass-through.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to Abarem, As for Saray your woman, you shall not call her name Saray, but her name will be Sarah. I will kneel-to-give to her, and moreover I will give you a male-tent-continuer by her. Yes, I will kneel-to-give to her, and she will be a strong-womb of nations. Male-Authorities-That-Guide-The-People of peoples will come from her.
Then Abarem fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his inner-guide, Will a tent-builder be produced to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, produce? Abarem said to the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, Oh that Yishmael might fill-the-stomach before you!
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said, No, but Sarah, your woman, will produce for you a male-tent-continuer. You shall call his name Aisachaq. I will establish my pieces-to-pass-through with him for a horizonal pieces-to-pass-through for his seed after him. As for Yishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have kneeled-to-give to him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will produce twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. But my pieces-to-pass-through I establish with Aisachaq, whom Sarah will produce by you at this set time next year.
When he finished talking with him, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide went up from Abarem. Abarem took Yishmael his male-tent-continuer, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abarem’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had said to him. Abarem was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. Yishmael, his male-tent-continuer, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. In the same day both Abarem and Yishmael, his male-tent-continuer, were circumcised. All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
Genesis 18
Ieue appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day. He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and flattened-himself to the land, and said, My Strongest-Lifebringer, if now I have found encampment in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant. Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and enter-into-the-tent yourselves under the tree. I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your inner-guide. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.
They said, Very well, do as you have said.
Abarem hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes. Abarem ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and functional calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it. He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
They asked him, Where is Sarah, your woman?
He said, See, in the tent.
He said, I will certainly return to you when the season comes around. Behold, Sarah your woman will have a male-tent-continuer.
Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him. Now Abarem and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age the path of women. Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am worn out I come-to-be with pleasure, my strongest-lifebringer being old also?
Ieue said to Abarem, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Will I really produce a tent-builder, yet I am old? Is anything too hard for Ieue? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a male-tent-continuer.
Then Sarah denied, saying, I didn’t laugh, for she was afraid.
He said, No, but you did laugh.
The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sedom. Abarem went with them to see them on their way. Ieue said, Will I hide from Abarem what I do, since Abarem has surely become a great and staunch nation, and all the nations of the land will be knelt-down-and-given-to in him? For I have known him, to the end that he may direct his tent-builders and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Ieue, to do straight-pathedness and justice; to the end that Ieue may bring on Abarem that which he has spoken of him. Ieue said, Because the cry of Sedom and Amorah is much, and because their missed-target is very weighty, I will go down now, and see whether what they are doing is as the cry which has come to me. If not, I will know.
The men turned from there, and went toward Sedom, but Abarem stood yet before Ieue. Abarem drew near, and said, Will you consume the straight-pathed with the wicked? What if there are fifty straight-pathed within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty straight-pathed who are in it? Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the straight-pathed with the wicked, so that the straight-pathed should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the land do right?
Ieue said, If I find in Sedom fifty straight-pathed within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake. Abarem answered, See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Strongest-Lifebringer, who am but dust and ashes. What if there will lack five of the fifty straight-pathed? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?
He said, I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.
He spoke to him yet again, and said, What if there are forty found there?
He said, I will not do it for the forty’s sake.
He said, Oh don’t let the Strongest-Lifebringer be nose-flared, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?
He said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
He said, See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Strongest-Lifebringer. What if there are twenty found there?
He said, I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.
He said, Oh don’t let the Strongest-Lifebringer be nose-flared, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?
He said, I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.
Ieue went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abarem, and Abarem returned to his place.
Genesis 19
The two messengers came to Sedom at evening. Lot sat in the gate of Sedom. Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. He flattened-himself, nostrils to the land, and he said, See now, my strong-lifebringers, please turn aside into your servant’s house, stay all night, wash your feet, and you can rise up early, and go on your way.
They said, No, but we will stay in the street all night.
He urged them greatly, and they came in with him, and entered into his house. He made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sedom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter. They called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may have sex with them.
Lot went out to them to the door, and shut the door after him. He said, Please, my male-strong-protectors, don’t act so wickedly. See now, I have two virgin female-tent-continuers. Please let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them what seems functional to you. Only don’t do anything to these men, because they have come under the shadow of my roof.
They said, Stand back! Then they said, This one fellow came in to fill-the-stomach as a foreigner, and he appoints himself a judge. Now will we deal worse with you, than with them! They pressed hard on the man Lot, and drew near to break the door. But the men reached out their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
The men said to Lot, Do you have anybody else here? Male-Tent-Continuers-in-law, your male-tent-continuers, your female-tent-continuers, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of the place: for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before Ieue that Ieue has sent us to destroy it.
Lot went out, and spoke to his male-tent-continuers-in-law, who were pledged to marry his female-tent-continuers, and said, Get up! Get out of this place, for Ieue will destroy the city.
But he seemed to his male-tent-continuers-in-law to be joking.
When the morning came, then the messengers hurried Lot, saying, Get up! Take your woman, and your two female-tent-continuers who are here, lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city. But he lingered; and the men grabbed his hand, his woman’s hand, and his two female-tent-continuers’ hands, Ieue being merciful to him; and they took him out, and set him outside of the city. It came to pass, when they had taken them out, that he said, Escape for your breathing-throat! Don’t look behind you, and don’t stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed!
Lot said to them, Please, it must not be, my strongest-lifebringer. See now, your servant has found encampment in your sight, and you have magnified your bent-neck, which you have shown to me in delivering my breathing-throat. I can’t escape to the mountain, lest dysfunction overtake me, and I empty-the-stomach. See now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there (isn’t it a little one?), and my breathing-throat will fill-the-stomach.
He said to him, Behold, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. Hurry, escape there, for I can’t do anything until you get there. Therefore the name of the city was called Tsoar.
The sun had risen on the land when Lot came to Tsoar. Then Ieue rained on Sedom and on Amorah sulfur and fire from Ieue out of the sky. He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground. But his woman looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Abarem got up early in the morning to the place where he had stood before Ieue. He looked toward Sedom and Amorah, and toward all the land of the plain, and looked, and saw that the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace.
It happened, when the Strongest-Yoked-Guide destroyed the cities of the plain, that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide remembered Abarem, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot filled-the-stomach.
Lot went up out of Tsoar, and filled-the-stomach in the mountain, and his two female-tent-continuers with him; for he was afraid to fill-the-stomach in Tsoar. He filled-the-stomach in a cave with his two female-tent-continuers. The firstborn said to the younger, Our tent-supporter is old, and there is not a man in the land to come in to us in the way of all the land. Come, let’s make our tent-supporter drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve our tent-supporter’s seed. They made their tent-supporter drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her tent-supporter. He didn’t know when she lay down, nor when she arose. It came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, Behold, I lay last night with my tent-supporter. Let us make him drink wine again, tonight. You go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve our tent-supporter’s seed. They made their tent-supporter drink wine that night also. The younger went and lay with him. He didn’t know when she lay down, nor when she got up. Thus both of Lot’s female-tent-continuers were with tent-builder by their tent-supporter. The firstborn produced a male-tent-continuer, and named him Moab. He is the tent-supporter of the Moab to this day. The younger also produced a male-tent-continuer, and called his name Ben Ammiy. He is the tent-supporter of the tent-builders of Ammon to this day.
Genesis 20
Abarem traveled from there toward the land of the South, and filled-the-stomach between Qadesh and Shur. He filled-the-stomach as a foreigner in Gerar. Abarem said about Sarah his woman, She is my female-strong-protector. Abiymelek male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Gerar sent, and took Sarah. But the Strongest-Yoked-Guide came to Abiymelek in a dream of the night, and said to him, Behold, you are a stomach-emptied man, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s woman.
Yet Abiymelek had not come near her. He said, Strongest-Lifebringer, will you kill even a straight-pathed nation? Didn’t he tell me, She is my female-strong-protector? She, even she herself, said, He is my male-strong-protector. In the integrity of my inner-guide and the innocence of my hands have I done this.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to him in the dream, Yes, I know that in the integrity of your inner-guide you have done this, and I also withheld you from missing-the-target against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s woman. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will fill-the-stomach. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will empty-the-stomach, you, and all who are yours.
Abiymelek rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared. Then Abiymelek called Abarem, and said to him, What have you done to us? How have I missed-the-target against you, that you have brought on me and on my authority-to-guide-the-people a great missed-target? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done! Abiymelek said to Abarem, What did you see, that you have done this thing?
Abarem said, Because I thought, Surely the gut-flowing-before the Strongest-Yoked-Guide is not in this place. They will kill me for my woman’s sake. Besides, she is indeed my female-strong-protector, the female-tent-continuer of my tent-supporter, but not the female-tent-continuer of my strong-womb; and she became my woman. It happened, when the Strongest-Yoked-Guide caused me to wander from my tent-supporter’s house, that I said to her, This is your bent-neck which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, He is my male-strong-protector.
Abiymelek took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abarem, and restored Sarah, his woman, to him. Abiymelek said, Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you. To Sarah he said, Behold, I have given your male-strong-protector a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.
Abarem prayed to the Strongest-Yoked-Guide. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide healed Abiymelek, and his woman, and his female servants, and they produced tent-builders. For Ieue had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abiymelek, because of Sarah, Abarem’s woman.
Genesis 21
Ieue visited Sarah as he had said, and Ieue did to Sarah as he had spoken. Sarah conceived, and produced a male-tent-continuer for Abarem in his old age, at the set time of which the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had spoken to him. Abarem called his male-tent-continuer who was produced to him, whom Sarah produced to him, Aisachaq. Abarem circumcised his male-tent-continuer, Aisachaq, when he was eight days old, as the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had directed him. Abarem was one hundred years old when his male-tent-continuer, Aisachaq, was produced to him. Sarah said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me. She said, Who would have said to Abarem, that Sarah would nurse tent-builders? For I have produced a male-tent-continuer for him in his old age.
The tent-builder grew, and was weaned. Abarem made a great feast on the day that Aisachaq was weaned. Sarah saw the male-tent-continuer of Hagar the Mitsriy, whom she had produced to Abarem, mocking. Therefore she said to Abarem, Cast out this handmaid and her male-tent-continuer! For the male-tent-continuer of this handmaid will not be heir with my male-tent-continuer, Aisachaq.
The thing was very grievous in Abarem’s sight on account of his male-tent-continuer. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to Abarem, Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your handmaid. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Aisachaq will your seed be called. I will also make a nation of the male-tent-continuer of the handmaid, because he is your seed.
Abarem rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the tent-builder, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. The water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the tent-builder under one of the shrubs. She went and sat down opposite him, a far way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, Don’t let me see the emptied-stomach of the tent-builder. She sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide heard the voice of the boy.
The messenger of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, What troubles you, Hagar? Don’t be afraid. For the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has heard the voice of the boy where he is. Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide was with the boy, and he grew. He filled-the-stomach in the wilderness, and became, as he grew up, an archer. He filled-the-stomach in the wilderness of Paran. His strong-womb took a woman for him out of the land of Matsrim.
It happened at that time, that Abiymelek and Piykol the captain of his army spoke to Abarem, saying, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide is with you in all that you do. Now, therefore, swear to me here by the Strongest-Yoked-Guide that you will not deal in-an-empty-way with me, nor with my male-tent-continuer, nor with my male-tent-continuer’s male-tent-continuer. But according to the bent-neck that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have filled-the-stomach as a foreigner.
Abarem said, I will swear. Abarem complained to Abiymelek because of a water well, which Abiymelek’s servants had violently taken away. Abiymelek said, I don’t know who has done this thing. You didn’t tell me, neither did I hear of it, until today.
Abarem took sheep and cattle, and gave them to Abiymelek. Those two cut pieces-to-pass-through. Abarem set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. Abiymelek said to Abarem, What do these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves mean?
He said, You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well. Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because they both swore there. So they cut pieces-to-pass-through at Beersheba. Abiymelek rose up with Piykol, the captain of his army, and they returned into the land of the Palashtim. Abarem planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Ieue, the horizonal Strong-Guide. Abarem filled-the-stomach as a foreigner in the land of the Palashtim many days.
Genesis 22
It happened after these things, that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide tested Abarem, and said to him, Abarem!
He said, Here I am.
He said, Now take your male-tent-continuer, your only male-tent-continuer, whom you care-for-the-gift-of, even Aisachaq, and go into the land of Moriyah. Offer him there for a ascent offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.
Abarem rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Aisachaq his male-tent-continuer. He split the wood for the ascent offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had told him. On the third day Abarem lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off. Abarem said to his young men, Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over here. We will flatten-ourselves, and then we will come back to you. Abarem took the wood of the ascent offering and laid it on Aisachaq his male-tent-continuer. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together. Aisachaq spoke to Abarem his tent-supporter, and said, My tent-supporter?
He said, Here I am, my male-tent-continuer.
He said, Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a ascent offering?
Abarem said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide will see for himself himself the lamb for a ascent offering, my male-tent-continuer. So they both went together. They came to the place which the Strongest-Yoked-Guide had told him of. Abarem built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Aisachaq his male-tent-continuer, and laid him on the altar, on the wood. Abarem stretched out his hand, and took the knife to kill his male-tent-continuer.
The messenger of Ieue called to him out of the sky, and said, Abarem, Abarem!
He said, Here I am.
He said, Don’t lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that your gut-flows-before the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, since you have not withheld your male-tent-continuer, your only male-tent-continuer, from me.
Abarem lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abarem went and took the ram, and offered him up for a ascent offering instead of his male-tent-continuer. Abarem called the name of that place Ieue Will See For Himself. As it is said to this day, On Ieue’s mountain, he will be seen.
The messenger of Ieue called to Abarem a second time out of the sky, and said, I have sworn by myself, says Ieue, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your male-tent-continuer, your only male-tent-continuer, that to kneel-to-give to you I will kneel-to-give to you, to multiply I will multiply your seed like the stars of the skies, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your seed will possess the gate of his enemies. In your seed will all the nations of the land be knelt-down-and-given-to, because you have listened to my voice.
So Abarem returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. Abarem filled-the-stomach at Beersheba.
It happened after these things, that it was told Abarem, saying, Behold, Milkah, she also has produced tent-builders to your male-strong-protector Nachor: Uts his firstborn, Buz his male-strong-protector, Qemuel the tent-supporter of Aram, Kesed, Chazo, Pildash, Yidlaph, and Bethuel. Bethuel produced Ribqah. These eight Milkah produced to Nachor, Abarem’s male-strong-protector. His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also produced Tebach, Gacham, Tachash, and Maakah.
Genesis 23
Sarah filled-the-stomach one hundred twenty-seven years. This was the length of Sarah’s filled-stomach. Sarah emptied-the-stomach in Qiryath Arba (the same is Chebron), in the land of Kanon. Abarem came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her. Abarem rose up from in the face of his emptied-stomach, and spoke to the tent-builders of Cheth, saying, I am a stranger and a foreigner with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my emptied-stomach out of my sight.
The tent-builders of Cheth answered Abarem, saying to him, Hear us, my strongest-lifebringer. You are a prince of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide among us. Bury your emptied-stomach in the best of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb. Bury your emptied-stomach.
Abarem rose up, and flattened-himself to the people of the land, even to the male-tent-continuers of Cheth. He talked with them, saying, If it please your breathing-throat that I should bury my emptied-stomach out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the male-tent-continuer of Tsochar, that he may give me the cave of Makpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me among you for a possession of a burying-place.
Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the tent-builders of Cheth. Ephron the Chittiy answered Abarem in the hearing of the tent-builders of Cheth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying, No, my strongest-lifebringer, hear me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. Before the eyes of the tent-builders of my people I give it to you. Bury your emptied-stomach.
Abarem flattened-himself before the people of the land. He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my emptied-stomach there.
Ephron answered Abarem, saying to him, My strongest-lifebringer, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your emptied-stomach.
Abarem listened to Ephron. Abarem weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the audience of the tent-builders of Cheth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.
So the field of Ephron, which was in Makpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all of its borders, were deeded to Abarem for a possession in the presence of the tent-builders of Cheth, before all who went in at the gate of his city. After this, Abarem buried Sarah his woman in the cave of the field of Makpelah before Mamre (that is, Chebron), in the land of Kanon. The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abarem for a possession of a burying place by the tent-builders of Cheth.
Genesis 24
Abarem was old, and well stricken in age. Ieue had kneeled-to-give to Abarem in all things. Abarem said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, Please put your hand under my thigh. I will make you swear by Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of the sky and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of the land, that you shall not take a woman for my male-tent-continuer of the female-tent-continuers of the Kenaaniy, among whom I fill-the-stomach. But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a woman for my male-tent-continuer Aisachaq.
The servant said to him, What if the woman isn’t willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your male-tent-continuer again to the land you came from?
Abarem said to him, Beware that you don’t bring my male-tent-continuer there again. Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of the sky, who took me from my tent-supporter’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, I will give this land to your seed. He will send his messenger before you, and you shall take a woman for my male-tent-continuer from there. If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this my oath. Only you shall not bring my male-tent-continuer there again.
The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abarem his strongest-lifebringer, and swore to him concerning this matter. The servant took ten camels, of his strongest-lifebringer’s camels, and departed, having a variety of functional things of his strongest-lifebringer’s with him. He arose, and went to Aram Naharayim, to the city of Nachor. He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water. He said, Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my strongest-lifebringer Abarem, please give me success this day, and do bend-your-neck to my strongest-lifebringer Abarem. Behold, I am standing by the spring of water. The female-tent-continuers of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. Let it happen, that the young lady to whom I will say, Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink, and she will say, Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink, let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Aisachaq. By this I will know that you have bent-your-neck to my strongest-lifebringer.
It happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Ribqah came out, who was produced to Bethuel the male-tent-continuer of Milkah, the woman of Nachor, Abarem’s male-strong-protector, with her pitcher on her shoulder. The young lady was very beautiful to look at, a virgin, neither had any man known her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up. The servant ran to meet her, and said, Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher.
She said, Drink, my strongest-lifebringer. She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him drink. When she had done giving him drink, she said, I will also draw for your camels, until they have done drinking. She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.
The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Ieue had made his journey prosperous or not. It happened, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold, and said, Whose female-tent-continuer are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your tent-supporter’s house for us to lodge in?
She said to him, I am the female-tent-continuer of Bethuel the male-tent-continuer of Milkah, whom she produced to Nachor. She said moreover to him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.
The man bowed his head, and flattened-himself to Ieue. He said, Knelt-down-and-given-to be Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my strongest-lifebringer Abarem, who has not forsaken bending-his-neck, and being firm toward my strongest-lifebringer. As for me, Ieue has led me in the way to the house of my strongest-lifebringer’s relatives.
The young lady ran, and told her strong-womb’s house about these words. Ribqah had a male-strong-protector, and his name was Laban. Laban ran out to the man, to the spring. It happened, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his female-strong-protector’s hands, and when he heard the words of Ribqah his female-strong-protector, saying, This is what the man said to me, that he came to the man. Behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring. He said, Come in, you who are knelt-down-and-given-to of Ieue. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
The man came into the house, and he unloaded the camels. He gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him. Food was set before him to eat, but he said, I will not eat until I have told my message.
He said, Speak on.
He said, I am Abarem’s servant. Ieue has kneeled-to-give to my strongest-lifebringer greatly. He has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys. Sarah, my strongest-lifebringer’s woman, produced a male-tent-continuer to my strongest-lifebringer when she was old. He has given all that he has to him. My strongest-lifebringer made me swear, saying, You shall not take a woman for my male-tent-continuer of the female-tent-continuers of the Kenaaniy, in whose land I fill-the-stomach, but you shall go to my tent-supporter’s house, and to my relatives, and take a woman for my male-tent-continuer.
I asked my strongest-lifebringer, What if the woman will not follow me?
He said to me, Ieue, before whom I walk, will send his messenger with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a woman for my male-tent-continuer of my relatives, and of my tent-supporter’s house. Then will you be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they don’t give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.
I came this day to the spring, and said, Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my strongest-lifebringer Abarem, if now you do prosper my way which I go-behold, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink, and she will tell me, Drink, and I will also draw for your camels, let her be the woman whom Ieue has appointed for my strongest-lifebringer’s male-tent-continuer.
Before I had finished speaking in my inner-guide, behold, Ribqah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew.
I said to her, Please let me drink.
She hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink. So I drank, and she also gave the camels a drink.
I asked her, and said, Whose female-tent-continuer are you?
She said, The female-tent-continuer of Bethuel, Nachor’s male-tent-continuer, whom Milkah produced to him.
I put the ring in her nose, and the bracelets on her hands. I bowed my head, and flattened-myself to Ieue, and knelt-to-give to Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my strongest-lifebringer Abarem, who had led me in the way of firmness to take my strongest-lifebringer’s male-strong-protector’s female-tent-continuer for his male-tent-continuer. Now if you will bend-your-neck and act in firmness with my strongest-lifebringer, tell me. If not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
Then Laban and Bethuel answered, The thing proceeds from Ieue. We can’t speak to you dysfunction or function. Behold, Ribqah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your strongest-lifebringer’s male-tent-continuer’s woman, as Ieue has spoken.
It happened that when Abarem’s servant heard their words, he flattened-himself to the land to Ieue. The servant brought out jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Ribqah. He also gave precious things to her male-strong-protector and her strong-womb. They ate and drank, he and the men who were with him, and stayed all night. They rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away to my strongest-lifebringer.
Her male-strong-protector and her strong-womb said, Let the young lady stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go.
He said to them, Don’t hinder me, since Ieue has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my strongest-lifebringer.
They said, We will call the young lady, and ask her. They called Ribqah, and said to her, Will you go with this man?
She said, I will go.
They sent away Ribqah, their female-strong-protector, with her nurse, Abarem’s servant, and his men. They kneeled-to-give to Ribqah, and said to her, Our female-strong-protector, may you be the strong-womb of thousands of ten thousands, and let your seed possess the gate of those who hate them.
Ribqah arose with her ladies. They rode on the camels, and followed the man. The servant took Ribqah, and went his way.
Aisachaq came from the way of Beer Lachay Roiy, for he filled-the-stomach in the land of the South. Aisachaq went out to meditate in the field at the evening. He lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, there were camels coming. Ribqah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Aisachaq, she dismounted from the camel. She said to the servant, Who is the man who is walking in the field to meet us?
The servant said, It is my strongest-lifebringer.
She took her veil, and covered herself.
The servant told Aisachaq all the things that he had done. Aisachaq brought her into his strong-womb Sarah’s tent, and took Ribqah, and she became his woman. He cared-for-the-gift-of her. Aisachaq was comforted after his strong-womb’s emptied-stomach.
Genesis 25
Abarem took another woman, and her name was Qeturah. She produced Zimran, Yoqshan, Medan, Midyan, Yishbaq, and Shuach for him. Yoqshan produced Shaba, and Dadan. The male-tent-continuers of Dadan were Ashuriy, Letushim, and Leummiym. The male-tent-continuers of Midyan: Eyphah, Epher, Chanuk, Abiyda, and Eldaah. All these were the tent-builders of Qeturah. Abarem gave all that he had to Aisachaq, but to the male-tent-continuers of Abarem’s concubines, Abarem gave bent-knee-presents. He sent them away from Aisachaq his male-tent-continuer, while he yet filled-the-stomach, eastward, to the east country. These are the days of the years of Abarem’s filled-stomach which he filled-the-stomach: one hundred seventy-five years. Abarem gave up the wind, and emptied-the-stomach in a functional old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people. Aisachaq and Yishmael, his male-tent-continuers, buried him in the cave of Makpelah, in the field of Ephron, the male-tent-continuer of Tsochar the Chittiy, which is before Mamre, the field which Abarem purchased of the tent-builders of Cheth. Abarem was buried there with Sarah, his woman. It happened after the emptied-stomach of Abarem that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide kneeled-to-give to Aisachaq, his male-tent-continuer. Aisachaq filled-the-stomach by Beer Lachay Roiy.
Now this is the history of the circles-of-men of Yishmael, Abarem’s male-tent-continuer, whom Hagar the Mitsriy, Sarah’s handmaid, produced to Abarem. These are the names of the male-tent-continuers of Yishmael, by their names, according to the order of their birth: the firstborn of Yishmael, Nebayoth, then Qedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Chadar, Teyma, Yetur, Naphiysh, and Qedemah. These are the male-tent-continuers of Yishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their nations. These are the years of the filled-stomach of Yishmael: one hundred thirty-seven years. He gave up the wind and emptied-the-stomach, and was gathered to his people. They filled-the-stomach from Chuile to Shur that is before Matsrim, as you go toward Ashur. He filled-the-stomach opposite all his relatives.
This is the history of the circles-of-men of Aisachaq, Abarem’s male-tent-continuer. Abarem produced Aisachaq. Aisachaq was forty years old when he took Ribqah, the female-tent-continuer of Bethuel the Arammiy of Paddan Aram, the female-strong-protector of Laban the Arammiy, to be his woman. Aisachaq entreated Ieue for his woman, because she was barren. Ieue was entreated by him, and Ribqah his woman conceived. The tent-builders struggled together within her. She said, If this is about to happen to me, why is this happening to me? She went to inquire of Ieue. Ieue said to her,
Two nations are in your loins. Two peoples will be separated from your bowels. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.
When her days to produce were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her loins. The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esav. After that, his male-strong-protector came out, and his hand had hold on Esav’s heel. He was named Eoqub. Aisachaq was sixty years old when she produced them.
The boys grew. Esav was an experienced hunter, a man of the field. Eoqub was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. Now Aisachaq cared-for-the-gift-of Esav, because he ate his venison. Ribqah cared-for-the-gift-of Eoqub. Eoqub boiled stew. Esav came in from the field, and he was famished. Esav said to Eoqub, Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished. Therefore his name was called Edom.
Eoqub said, First, sell me your birthright.
Esav said, Behold, I am about to empty-the-stomach. How will the birthright be functional to me?
Eoqub said, Swear to me first.
He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Eoqub. Eoqub gave Esav bread and the stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esav despised his birthright.
Genesis 26
There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abarem. Aisachaq went to Abiymelek male-authority-that-guides-the-people of the Palashtim, to Gerar. Ieue appeared to him, and said, Don’t go down into Matsrim. Fill-the-stomach in the land I will tell you about. Fill-the-stomach in this land, and I will be with you, and will kneel-to-give to you. For to you, and to your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abarem your tent-supporter. I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and will give to your seed all these lands. In your seed will all the nations of the land be knelt-down-and-given-to, because Abarem listened to my voice, and guarded my requirements, my directives, my statutes, and my thrown-seeds.
Aisachaq filled-the-stomach in Gerar. The men of the place asked him about his woman. He said, She is my female-strong-protector, for he was afraid to say, My woman, lest, he thought, the men of the place might kill me for Ribqah, because she is beautiful to look at. It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abiymelek male-authority-that-guides-the-people of the Palashtim looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Aisachaq was caressing Ribqah, his woman. Abiymelek called Aisachaq, and said, Behold, surely she is your woman. Why did you say, She is my female-strong-protector?
Aisachaq said to him, Because I said, Lest I empty-the-stomach because of her.
Abiymelek said, What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your woman, and you would have brought guilt on us!
Abiymelek directed all the people, saying, He who touches this man or his woman will surely be stomach-emptied.
Aisachaq sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Ieue kneeled-to-give to him. The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great. He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Palashtim envied him. Now all the wells which his tent-supporter’s servants had dug in the days of Abarem his tent-supporter, the Palashtim had stopped, and filled with land. Abiymelek said to Aisachaq, Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.
Aisachaq departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and filled-the-stomach there.
Aisachaq dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abarem his tent-supporter. For the Palashtim had stopped them after the emptied-stomach of Abarem. He called their names after the names by which his tent-supporter had called them. Aisachaq’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Aisachaq’s herdsmen, saying, The water is ours. He called the name of the well Eseq, because they contended with him. They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah. He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. He called it Rachabat. He said, For now Ieue has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.
He went up from there to Beersheba. Ieue appeared to him the same night, and said, I am the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Abarem your tent-supporter. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will kneel-to-give to you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abarem’s sake.
He built an altar there, and called on the name of Ieue, and pitched his tent there. There Aisachaq’s servants dug a well.
Then Abiymelek went to him from Gerar, and Achuzzath his friend, and Piykol the captain of his army. Aisachaq said to them, Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?
They said, We saw plainly that Ieue was with you. We said, Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us cut pieces-to-pass-through with you, that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but what is functional, and have sent you away in completeness. You are now the knelt-down-and-given-to of Ieue.
He made them a feast, and they ate and drank. They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Aisachaq sent them away, and they departed from him in completeness. It happened the same day, that Aisachaq’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, We have found water. He called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.
When Esav was forty years old, he took as woman Yahudiyth, the female-tent-continuer of Beeriy the Chittiy, and Bosmath, the female-tent-continuer of Eylon the Chittiy. They grieved Aisachaq’s and Ribqah’s winds.
Genesis 27
It happened, that when Aisachaq was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esav his elder male-tent-continuer, and said to him, My male-tent-continuer?
He said to him, Here I am.
He said, See now, I am old. I don’t know the day of my emptied-stomach. Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison. Make me savory food, such as I care-for-the-gift-of, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my breathing-throat may kneel-to-give to you before I empty-the-stomach.
Ribqah heard when Aisachaq spoke to Esav his male-tent-continuer. Esav went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. Ribqah spoke to Eoqub her male-tent-continuer, saying, Behold, I heard your tent-supporter speak to Esav your male-strong-protector, saying, Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and kneel-to-give to you before Ieue before my emptied-stomach. Now therefore, my male-tent-continuer, listen to my voice according to that which I direct you. Go now to the flock, and get me from there two functional young goats. I will make them savory food for your tent-supporter, such as he cares-for-the-gift-of. You shall bring it to your tent-supporter, that he may eat, so that he may kneel-to-give to you before his emptied-stomach.
Eoqub said to Ribqah his strong-womb, Behold, Esav my male-strong-protector is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. What if my tent-supporter touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not kneeling-down-to-give.
His strong-womb said to him, Let your curse be on me, my male-tent-continuer. Only listen to my voice, and go get them for me.
He went, and got them, and brought them to his strong-womb. His strong-womb made savory food, such as his tent-supporter cared-for-the-gift-of. Ribqah took the functional clothes of Esav, her elder male-tent-continuer, which were with her in the house, and put them on Eoqub, her younger male-tent-continuer. She put the skins of the young goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck. She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her male-tent-continuer Eoqub.
He came to his tent-supporter, and said, My tent-supporter?
He said, Here I am. Who are you, my male-tent-continuer?
Eoqub said to his tent-supporter, I am Esav your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your breathing-throat may kneel-to-give to me.
Aisachaq said to his male-tent-continuer, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my male-tent-continuer?
He said, Because Ieue your Strongest-Yoked-Guide gave me success.
Aisachaq said to Eoqub, Please come near, that I may feel you, my male-tent-continuer, whether you are really my male-tent-continuer Esav or not.
Eoqub went near to Aisachaq his tent-supporter. He felt him, and said, The voice is Eoqub’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esav. He didn’t recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his male-strong-protector, Esav’s hands. So he kneeled-to-give to him. He said, Are you really my male-tent-continuer Esav?
He said, I am.
He said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my male-tent-continuer’s venison, that my breathing-throat may kneel-to-give to you.
He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.
His tent-supporter Aisachaq said to him, Come near now, and kiss me, my male-tent-continuer.
He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and kneeled-to-give to him, and said, Behold, the smell of my male-tent-continuer is as the smell of a field which Ieue has knelt-down-and-given-to. May the Strongest-Yoked-Guide give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the land, and plenty of grain and new wine. Peoples shall serve you, and nations shall flatten-themselves to you. Be high-headed over your male-strong-protectors. Let your strong-womb’s male-tent-continuers flatten-themselves to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Knelt-down-and-given-to be everyone who kneels down to give to you.
It happened, as soon as Aisachaq had made an end of kneeling-down-to-give to Eoqub, and Eoqub had just gone out from the presence of Aisachaq his tent-supporter, that Esav his male-strong-protector came in from his hunting. He also made savory food, and brought it to his tent-supporter. He said to his tent-supporter, Let my tent-supporter arise, and eat of his male-tent-continuer’s venison, that your breathing-throat may kneel-to-give to me.
Aisachaq his tent-supporter said to him, Who are you?
He said, I am your male-tent-continuer, your firstborn, Esav.
Aisachaq trembled violently, and said, Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have kneeled-to-give to him? Yes, he will be knelt-down-and-given-to.
When Esav heard the words of his tent-supporter, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said to his tent-supporter, kneel-to-give to to give to me, even me also, my tent-supporter.
He said, Your male-strong-protector came with deceit, and has taken away your kneeling-down-to-give.
He said, Isn’t he rightly named Eoqub? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my kneeling-down-to-give. He said, Haven’t you reserved a kneeling-down-to-give for me?
Aisachaq answered Esav, Behold, I have made him your high-headed one, and all his male-strong-protectors have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my male-tent-continuer?
Esav said to his tent-supporter, Have you but one kneeling-down-to-give, my tent-supporter? kneel-to-give to me, even me also, my tent-supporter. Esav lifted up his voice, and wept.
Aisachaq his tent-supporter answered him, Behold, of the fatness of the land will be your dwelling, and of the dew of the sky from above. By your sword will you fill-the-stomach, and you will serve your male-strong-protector. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck.
Esav hated Eoqub because of the kneeling-down-to-give with which his tent-supporter kneeled-to-give to him. Esav said in his inner-guide, The days of mourning for my tent-supporter are at hand. Then I will kill my male-strong-protector Eoqub.
The words of Esav, her elder male-tent-continuer, were told to Ribqah. She sent and called Eoqub, her younger male-tent-continuer, and said to him, Behold, your male-strong-protector Esav comforts himself about you by planning to kill you. Now therefore, my male-tent-continuer, listen to my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my male-strong-protector, in Charan. Stay with him a few days, until your male-strong-protector’s fury turns away; until your male-strong-protector’s nose-flaring turn away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?
Ribqah said to Aisachaq, I am weary of my filled-stomach because of the female-tent-continuers of Cheth. If Eoqub takes a woman of the female-tent-continuers of Cheth, such as these, of the female-tent-continuers of the land, how functional will my filled-stomach be to me?
Genesis 28
Aisachaq called Eoqub, kneeled-to-give to him, and directed him, You shall not take a woman of the female-tent-continuers of Kanon. Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your strong-womb’s tent-supporter. Take a woman from there from the female-tent-continuers of Laban, your strong-womb’s male-strong-protector. May the Supreme Strong-Guide kneel-to-give to you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples, and give you the kneeling-down-to-give of Abarem, to you, and to your seed with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which the Strongest-Yoked-Guide gave to Abarem.
Aisachaq sent Eoqub away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, male-tent-continuer of Bethuel the Arammiy, Ribqah’s male-strong-protector, Eoqub’s and Esav’s strong-womb.
Now Esav saw that Aisachaq had kneeled-to-give to Eoqub and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a woman from there, and that as he kneeled-to-give to him he gave him a directive, saying, You shall not take a woman of the female-tent-continuers of Kanon, and that Eoqub listened to his tent-supporter and his strong-womb, and was gone to Paddan Aram. Esav saw that the female-tent-continuers of Kanon didn’t please Aisachaq, his tent-supporter. Esav went to Yishmael, and took, besides the women that he had, Mahalath the female-tent-continuer of Yishmael, Abarem’s male-tent-continuer, the female-strong-protector of Nebayoth, to be his woman.
Eoqub went out from Beersheba, and went toward Charan. He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep. He dreamed. Behold, a stairway set upon the land, and its top reached to the sky. Behold, the messengers of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide ascending and descending on it. Behold, Ieue stood above it, and said, I am Ieue, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Abarem your tent-supporter, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Aisachaq. The land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed. Your seed will be as the dust of the land, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your seed will all the families of the land be knelt-down-and-given-to. Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.
Eoqub awakened out of his sleep, and he said, Surely Ieue is in this place, and I didn’t know it. He was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! This is none other than the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s house, and this is the gate of the sky.
Eoqub rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top. He called the name of that place Beythel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. Eoqub vowed a vow, saying, If the Strongest-Yoked-Guide will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on, so that I come again to my tent-supporter’s house in completeness, and Ieue will be my Strongest-Yoked-Guide, then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you.
Genesis 29
Then Eoqub went on his journey, and came to the land of the tent-builders of the east. He looked, and behold, a well in the field, and, behold, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large. There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again on the well’s mouth in its place. Eoqub said to them, My relatives, where are you from?
They said, We are from Charan.
He said to them, Do you know Laban, the male-tent-continuer of Nachor?
They said, We know him.
He said to them, Is it well with him?
They said, It is well. See, Rachel, his female-tent-continuer, is coming with the sheep.
He said, Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.
They said, We can’t, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth. Then we water the sheep.
While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her tent-supporter’s sheep, for she kept them. It happened, when Eoqub saw Rachel the female-tent-continuer of Laban, his strong-womb’s male-strong-protector, and the sheep of Laban, his strong-womb’s male-strong-protector, that Eoqub went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his strong-womb’s male-strong-protector. Eoqub kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept. Eoqub told Rachel that he was her tent-supporter’s male-strong-protector, and that he was Ribqah’s male-tent-continuer. She ran and told her tent-supporter.
It happened, when Laban heard the news of Eoqub, his female-strong-protector’s male-tent-continuer, that he ran to meet Eoqub, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Eoqub told Laban all these things. Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. He filled-the-stomach with him for a month. Laban said to Eoqub, Because you are my male-strong-protector, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?
Laban had two female-tent-continuers. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. Leah’s eyes were tender, yet Rachel had-come-to-be beautiful in form and attractive. Eoqub cared-for-the-gift-of Rachel. He said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger female-tent-continuer.
Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.
Eoqub served seven years for Rachel. They seemed to him but a few days, for the care-for-the-gift-of he had for her.
Eoqub said to Laban, Give me my woman, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.
Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. It happened in the evening, that he took Leah his female-tent-continuer, and brought her to him. He went in to her. Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his female-tent-continuer Leah for a handmaid. It happened in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. He said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?
Laban said, It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me yet seven other years.
Eoqub did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his female-tent-continuer as woman. Laban gave to Rachel his female-tent-continuer Bilhah, his handmaid, to be her handmaid. He went in also to Rachel, and he also cared-for-the-gift-of Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
Ieue saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. Leah conceived, and produced a male-tent-continuer, and she named him Reuben. For she said, Because Ieue has looked at my affliction. For now my man will care-for-the-gift-of me. She conceived again, and produced a male-tent-continuer, and said, Because Ieue has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this male-tent-continuer also. She named him Shimon. She conceived again, and produced a male-tent-continuer. Said, Now this time will my man be joined to me, because I have produced three male-tent-continuers for him. Therefore was his name called Leviy. She conceived again, and produced a male-tent-continuer. She said, This time will I praise Ieue. Therefore she named him Ieude. Then she stopped producing.
Genesis 30
When Rachel saw that she produced no tent-builders for Eoqub, Rachel envied her female-strong-protector. She said to Eoqub, Give me tent-builders, or else I will empty-the-stomach.
Eoqub’s nose-flaring was kindled against Rachel, and he said, Am I in the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the loins?
She said, Behold, my maid Bilhah. Go in to her, that she may produce on my knees, and I also may obtain tent-builders by her. She gave him Bilhah her handmaid as woman, and Eoqub went in to her. Bilhah conceived, and produced a male-tent-continuer for Eoqub. Rachel said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a male-tent-continuer. Therefore she called his name Dan. Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid, conceived again, and produced a second male-tent-continuer for Eoqub. Rachel said, With the strongest twistings have I twisted with my female-strong-protector, and have prevailed. She named him Naphtaliy.
When Leah saw that she had finished producing, she took Zilpah, her handmaid, and gave her to Eoqub as a woman. Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, produced a male-tent-continuer for Eoqub. Leah said, How fortunate! She named him Gad. Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid, produced a second male-tent-continuer for Eoqub. Leah said, Happy am I, for the female-tent-continuers will call me happy. She named him Asher.
Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his strong-womb, Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Please give me some of your male-tent-continuer’s mandrakes.
She said to her, Is it a small matter that you have taken away my man? Would you take away my male-tent-continuer’s mandrakes also?
Rachel said, Therefore he will lie with you tonight for your male-tent-continuer’s mandrakes.
Eoqub came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, You must come in to me; for I have surely hired you with my male-tent-continuer’s mandrakes.
He lay with her that night. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide listened to Leah, and she conceived, and produced a fifth male-tent-continuer for Eoqub. Leah said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my man. She named him Yissaskar. Leah conceived again, and produced a sixth male-tent-continuer to Eoqub. Leah said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has endowed me with a functional dowry. Now my man will fill-the-stomach with me, because I have produced six male-tent-continuers for him. She named him Zebulun. Afterwards, she produced a female-tent-continuer, and named her Diynah.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide remembered Rachel, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide listened to her, and opened her womb. She conceived, produced a male-tent-continuer, and said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has taken away my reproach. She named him Yehoseph, saying, May Ieue add another male-tent-continuer to me.
It happened, when Rachel had produced Yehoseph, that Eoqub said to Laban, Send me away, that I may go to my own place, and to my country. Give me my women and my tent-builders for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service with which I have served you.
Laban said to him, If now I have found encampment in your eyes, stay here, for I have divined that Ieue has knelt-to-give to me for your sake. He said, Appoint me your wages, and I will give it.
He said to him, You know how I have served you, and how your livestock have fared with me. For it was little which you had before I came, and it has increased to a multitude. Ieue has knelt-to-give to you wherever I turned. Now when will I do something for my own house also?
He said, What shall I give you?
Eoqub said, You shall not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flock and keep it. I will pass through all your flock today, removing from there every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats. This will be my hire. So my straight-pathedness will answer for me hereafter, when you come concerning my hire that is before you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that might be with me, will be counted stolen.
Laban said, Behold, let it be revealed according to your word. That day, he removed the male goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the female goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the black ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his male-tent-continuers. He set three days’ journey between himself and Eoqub, and Eoqub fed the rest of Laban’s flocks.
Eoqub took to himself rods of fresh poplar, almond, plane tree, peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. He set the rods which he had peeled opposite the flocks in the gutters in the watering-troughs where the flocks came to drink. They conceived when they came to drink. The flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks produced streaked, speckled, and spotted. Eoqub separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the streaked and all the black in the flock of Laban: and he put his own droves apart, and didn’t put them into Laban’s flock. It happened, whenever the stronger of the flock conceived, that Eoqub laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods; but when the flock were feeble, he didn’t put them in. So the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Eoqub’s. The man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, female servants and male servants, and camels and donkeys.
Genesis 31
He heard the words of Laban’s male-tent-continuers, saying, Eoqub has taken away all that was our tent-supporter’s. From that which was our tent-supporter’s, has he gotten all this weightiness. Eoqub saw the expression on Laban’s face, and, behold, it was not toward him as before. Ieue said to Eoqub, Return to the land of your tent-supporters, and to your relatives, and I will be with you.
Eoqub sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his flock, and said to them, I see the expression on your tent-supporter’s face, that it is not toward me as before; but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my tent-supporter has been with me. You know that I have served your tent-supporter with all of my strength. Your tent-supporter has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide didn’t allow him to hurt me. If he said this, The speckled will be your wages, then all the flock produced speckled. If he said this, The streaked will be your wages, then all the flock produced streaked. Thus the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has taken away your tent-supporter’s livestock, and given them to me. It happened during mating season that I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which leaped on the flock were streaked, speckled, and grizzled. The messenger of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to me in the dream, Eoqub, and I said, Here I am. He said, Now lift up your eyes, and behold, all the male goats which leap on the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled, for I have seen all that Laban does to you. I am the the Strong-Guide of Beythel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.
Rachel and Leah answered him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our tent-supporter’s house? Aren’t we accounted by him as foreigners? For he has sold us, and has also quite devoured our money. For all the riches which the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has taken away from our tent-supporter, that is ours and our tent-builders’s. Now then, whatever the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has said to you, do.
Then Eoqub rose up, and set his male-tent-continuers and his women on the camels, and he took away all his livestock, and all his possessions which he had gathered, including the livestock which he had gained in Paddan Aram, to go to Aisachaq his tent-supporter, to the land of Kanon. Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep: and Rachel stole the household strong-yoked-guides that were her tent-supporter’s.
Eoqub deceived Laban the Arammiy, in that he didn’t tell him that he was running away. So he fled with all that he had. He rose up, passed over the River, and set his face toward the mountain of Gilad.
Laban was told on the third day that Eoqub had fled. He took his relatives with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey. He overtook him in the mountain of Gilad. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide came to Laban, the Arammiy, in a dream of the night, and said to him, Take heed to yourself that you don’t speak to Eoqub either function or dysfunction.
Laban caught up with Eoqub. Now Eoqub had pitched his tent in the mountain, and Laban with his relatives encamped in the mountain of Gilad. Laban said to Eoqub, What have you done, that you have deceived me, and carried away my female-tent-continuers like captives of the sword? Why did you flee secretly, and deceive me, and didn’t tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth and with songs, with tambourine and with harp; and didn’t allow me to kiss my male-tent-continuers and my female-tent-continuers? Now have you done foolishly. It is in the power of my hand to hurt you, but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of your tent-supporter spoke to me last night, saying, Take heed to yourself that you don’t speak to Eoqub either function or dysfunction. Now, you want to be gone, because you greatly longed for your tent-supporter’s house, but why have you stolen my strong-yoked-guides?
Eoqub answered Laban, Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest you should take your female-tent-continuers from me by force. Anyone you find your strong-yoked-guides with shall not fill-the-stomach. Before our relatives, discern what is yours with me, and take it. For Eoqub didn’t know that Rachel had stolen them.
Laban went into Eoqub’s tent, into Leah’s tent, and into the tent of the two female servants; but he didn’t find them. He went out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent. Now Rachel had taken the household strong-yoked-guides, put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat on them. Laban felt about all the tent, but didn’t find them. She said to her tent-supporter, Don’t let my strongest-lifebringer be nose-flared that I can’t rise up before you; for I’m having my period. He searched, but didn’t find the household strong-yoked-guides.
Eoqub was nose-flared, and argued with Laban. Eoqub answered Laban, What is my trespass? What is my missed-target, that you have hotly pursued after me? Now that you have felt around in all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my relatives and your relatives, that they may judge between us two.
These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not cast their young, and I haven’t eaten the rams of your flocks. That which was torn of animals, I didn’t bring to you. I bore its loss. Of my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. This was my situation: in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from my eyes. These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two female-tent-continuers, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times. Unless the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my tent-supporter, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Abarem, and the gut-flowing-before Aisachaq, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.
Laban answered Eoqub, The female-tent-continuers are my female-tent-continuers, the tent-builders are my tent-builders, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine: and what can I do this day to these my female-tent-continuers, or to their tent-builders whom they have produced? Now come, let us cut pieces-to-pass-through, you and I; and let it be for a witness between me and you.
Eoqub took a stone, and set it up for a pillar. Eoqub said to his relatives, Gather stones. They took stones, and made a heap. They ate there by the heap. Laban called it Yegar Sahadutha, but Eoqub called it Galyed. Laban said, This heap is witness between me and you this day. Therefore it was named Galyed and Mitspah, for he said, Ieue watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another. If you afflict my female-tent-continuers, or if you take women besides my female-tent-continuers, no man is with us; behold, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide is witness between me and you. Laban said to Eoqub, See this heap, and see the pillar, which I have set between me and you. May this heap be a witness, and the pillar be a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you will not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Abarem, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of Nachor, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of their tent-supporter, judge between us. Then Eoqub swore by the gut-flowing-before his tent-supporter, Aisachaq. Eoqub offered a slaughter in the mountain, and called his relatives to eat bread. They ate bread, and stayed all night in the mountain. Early in the morning, Laban rose up, and kissed his male-tent-continuers and his female-tent-continuers, and kneeled-to-give to them. Laban departed and returned to his place.
Genesis 32
Eoqub went on his way, and the messengers of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide met him. When he saw them, Eoqub said, This is the Strongest-Yoked-Guide’s army. He called the name of that place Machanayim.
Eoqub sent messengers in front of him to Esav, his male-strong-protector, to the land of Seiyr, the field of Edom. He directed them, saying, This is what you shall tell my strongest-lifebringer, Esav: This is what your servant, Eoqub, says. I have filled-the-stomach as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now. I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my strongest-lifebringer, that I may find encampment in your sight. The messengers returned to Eoqub, saying, We came to your male-strong-protector Esav. Not only that, but he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him. Then Eoqub was greatly afraid and was distressed. He divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies; and he said, If Esav comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape. Eoqub said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my tent-supporter Abarem, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of my tent-supporter Aisachaq, Ieue, who said to me, Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you what is functional, I am not worthy of the least of all the bent-necks, and of all the firmness, which you have shown to your servant; for with just my staff I passed over this Yarden; and now I have become two companies. Please deliver me from the hand of my male-strong-protector, from the hand of Esav: for I flow-the-gut-before him, lest he come and strike me, and the strong-wombs with the tent-builders. You said, I will surely do what is functional to you, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which can’t be numbered because there are so many.
He lodged there that night, and took from that which he had with him, a present for Esav, his male-strong-protector: two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, thirty milk camels and their colts, forty cows, ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals. He delivered them into the hands of his servants, every herd by itself, and said to his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space between herd and herd. He directed the foremost, saying, When Esav, my male-strong-protector, meets you, and asks you, saying, Whose are you? Where are you going? Whose are these before you? Then you shall say, They are your servant, Eoqub’s. It is a present sent to my strongest-lifebringer, Esav. Behold, he also is behind us. He directed also the second, and the third, and all that followed the herds, saying, This is how you shall speak to Esav, when you find him. You shall say, Not only that, but behold, your servant, Eoqub, is behind us. For, he said, I will shelter him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will lift up my face.
So the present passed over before him, and he himself lodged that night in the camp.
He rose up that night, and took his two women, and his two handmaids, and his eleven male-tent-continuers, and passed over the ford of the Yabboq. He took them, and sent them over the stream, and sent over that which he had. Eoqub was left alone, and wrestled with a man there until the breaking of the day. When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Eoqub’s thigh was strained, as he wrestled. The man said, Let me go, for the day breaks.
Eoqub said, I won’t let you go, unless you kneel-to-give to me.
He said to him, What is your name?
He said, Eoqub. He said, Your name will no longer be called Eoqub, but Isharal; for you have wrestled with the Strongest-Yoked-Guide and with men, and have prevailed.
Eoqub asked him, Please tell me your name.
He said, Why is it that you ask what my name is? He kneeled-to-give to him there.
Eoqub called the name of the place Peniyel: for, he said, I have seen the Strongest-Yoked-Guide face to face, and my breathing-throat is preserved. The sun rose on him as he passed over Penuel, and he limped because of his thigh. Therefore the tent-builders of Isharal don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Eoqub’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
Genesis 33
Eoqub lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esav was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the tent-builders between Leah, Rachel, and the two handmaids. He put the handmaids and their tent-builders in front, Leah and her tent-builders after, and Rachel and Yehoseph at the rear. He himself passed over in front of them, and flattened-himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his male-strong-protector.
Esav ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept. He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the tent-builders; and said, Who are these with you?
He said, The tent-builders whom the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has in encampment given to your servant.
Then the handmaids came near with their tent-builders, and they flattened-themselves. Leah also and her tent-builders came near, and flattened-themselves. After them, Yehoseph came near with Rachel, and they flattened-themselves.
Esav said, What do you mean by all this company which I met?
Eoqub said, To find encampment in the sight of my strongest-lifebringer.
Esav said, I have enough, my male-strong-protector; let that which you have be yours.
Eoqub said, Please, no, if I have now found encampment in your eyes, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, and you were pleased with me. Please take the bent-knee-present that I brought to you, because the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has dealt in encampment with me, and because I have enough. He urged him, and he took it.
Esav said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before you.
Eoqub said to him, My strongest-lifebringer knows that the tent-builders are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will empty-the-stomach. Please let my strongest-lifebringer pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the tent-builders, until I come to my strongest-lifebringer to Seiyr.
Esav said, Let me now leave with you some of the folk who are with me.
He said, Why? Let me find encampment in the sight of my strongest-lifebringer.
So Esav returned that day on his way to Seiyr. Eoqub traveled to Sukkoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Sukkoth.
Eoqub came in completeness to the city of Shekem, which is in the land of Kanon, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city. He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the tent-builders of Chamor, Shekem’s tent-supporter, for one hundred pieces of money. He erected an altar there, and called it Strong-Guide, the Strong-Guide of Isharal.
Genesis 34
Diynah, the female-tent-continuer of Leah, whom she produced to Eoqub, went out to see the female-tent-continuers of the land. Shekem the male-tent-continuer of Chamor the Chivviy, the prince of the land, saw her. He took her, lay with her, and humbled her. His breathing-throat joined to Diynah, the female-tent-continuer of Eoqub, and he cared-for-the-gift-of the young lady, and spoke kindly to the young lady. Shekem spoke to his tent-supporter, Chamor, saying, Get me this young lady as a woman.
Now Eoqub heard that he had defiled Diynah, his female-tent-continuer; and his male-tent-continuers were with his livestock in the field. Eoqub held his completeness until they came. Chamor the tent-supporter of Shekem went out to Eoqub to talk with him. The male-tent-continuers of Eoqub came in from the field when they heard it. The men were grieved, and they were very nose-flared, because he had done folly in Isharal in lying with Eoqub’s female-tent-continuer; a which thing ought not to be done. Chamor talked with them, saying, The breathing-throat of my male-tent-continuer, Shekem, longs for your female-tent-continuer. Please give her to him as a woman. Make marriages with us. Give your female-tent-continuers to us, and take our female-tent-continuers for yourselves. You shall dwell with us, and the land will be before you. Fill-the-stomach and trade in it, and get possessions in it.
Shekem said to her tent-supporter and to her male-strong-protectors, Let me find encampment in your eyes, and whatever you will tell me I will give. Ask me a great amount for a dowry, and I will give whatever you ask of me, but give me the young lady as a woman.
The male-tent-continuers of Eoqub answered Shekem and Chamor his tent-supporter with deceit, and spoke, because he had defiled Diynah their female-strong-protector, and said to them, We can’t do this thing, to give our female-strong-protector to one who is uncircumcised; for that is a reproach to us. Only on this condition will we consent to you. If you will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised; then will we give our female-tent-continuers to you, and we will take your female-tent-continuers to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people. But if you will not listen to us, to be circumcised, then we will take our female-strong-protector, and we will be gone.
Their words pleased Chamor and Shekem, Chamor’s male-tent-continuer. The young man didn’t wait to do this thing, because he had delight in Eoqub’s female-tent-continuer, and he was considered-as-weighty above all the house of his tent-supporter. Chamor and Shekem, his male-tent-continuer, came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying, These men are peaceful with us. Therefore let them fill-the-stomach in the land and trade in it. For behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their female-tent-continuers to us for women, and let us give them our female-tent-continuers. Only on this condition will the men consent to us to fill-the-stomach with us, to become one people, if every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised. Won’t their livestock and their possessions and all their animals be ours? Only let us give our consent to them, and they will dwell with us.
All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Chamor, and to Shekem his male-tent-continuer; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city. It happened on the third day, when they were sore, that two of Eoqub’s male-tent-continuers, Shimon and Leviy, Diynah’s male-strong-protectors, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males. They killed Chamor and Shekem, his male-tent-continuer, with the edge of the sword, and took Diynah out of Shekem’s house, and went away. Eoqub’s male-tent-continuers came on the emptied-stomachs, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their female-strong-protector. They took their flocks, their herds, their donkeys, that which was in the city, that which was in the field, and all their wealth. They took captive all their little ones and their women, and took as plunder everything that was in the house. Eoqub said to Shimon and Leviy, You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Kenaaniy and the Perizziy. I am few in number. They will gather themselves together against me and strike me, and I will be destroyed, I and my house.
They said, Should he deal with our female-strong-protector as with a prostitute?
Genesis 35
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to Eoqub, Arise, go up to Beythel, and fill-the-stomach there. Make there an altar to the Strong-Guide, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esav your male-strong-protector.
Then Eoqub said to his household, and to all who were with him, Puth away the foreign strong-yoked-guides that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments. Let us arise, and go up to Beythel. I will make there an altar to the Strong-Guide, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
They gave to Eoqub all the foreign strong-yoked-guides which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Eoqub hid them under the oak which was by Shekem. They traveled, and a terror of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the male-tent-continuers of Eoqub. So Eoqub came to Luz (that is, Beythel), which is in the land of Kanon, he and all the people who were with him. He built an altar there, and called the place the Strong-Guide of Beythel; because there the Strongest-Yoked-Guide was uncovered to him, when he fled from the face of Esav, his male-strong-protector. Deborah, Ribqah’s nurse, emptied-the-stomach, and she was buried below Beythel under the oak; and its name was called Allon Bakuth.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide appeared to Eoqub again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and kneeled-to-give to him. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to him, Your name is Eoqub. Your name shall not be Eoqub any more, but your name will be Isharal. He named him Isharal. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide said to him, I am the Supreme Strong-Guide. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and male-authorities-that-guide-the-people will come out of your body. The land which I gave to Abarem and Aisachaq, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land.
The Strongest-Yoked-Guide went up from him in the place where he spoke with him. Eoqub set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it. Eoqub called the name of the place where the Strongest-Yoked-Guide spoke with him Beythel.
They traveled from Beythel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel was producing. She had hard time producing. When she was having a hard time producing, the midwife said to her, Don’t be afraid, for now you will have another male-tent-continuer.
It happened, as her breathing-throat was departing (for she emptied-the-stomach), that she named him Benoniy, but his tent-supporter named him Binyamiyn. Rachel emptied-the-stomach, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beyth Lechem). Eoqub set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day. Isharal traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Migdal-Migdal-Eder. It happened, while Isharal filled-the-stomach in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his tent-supporter’s concubine, and Isharal heard of it.
Now the male-tent-continuers of Eoqub were twelve.
The male-tent-continuers of Leah: Reuben (Eoqub’s firstborn), Shimon, Leviy, Ieude, Yissaskar, and Zebulun. The male-tent-continuers of Rachel: Yehoseph and Binyamiyn. The male-tent-continuers of Bilhah (Rachel’s handmaid): Dan and Naphtaliy. The male-tent-continuers of Zilpah (Leah’s handmaid): Gad and Asher. These are the male-tent-continuers of Eoqub, who were produced to him in Paddan Aram.
Eoqub came to Aisachaq his tent-supporter, to Mamre, to Qiryath Arba (which is Chebron), where Abarem and Aisachaq filled-the-stomach as foreigners.
The days of Aisachaq were one hundred eighty years. Aisachaq gave up the wind, and emptied-the-stomach, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esav and Eoqub, his male-tent-continuers, buried him.
Genesis 36
Now this is the history of the circles-of-men of Esav (that is, Edom). Esav took his women from the female-tent-continuers of Kanon: Ode the female-tent-continuer of Eylon, the Chittiy; and Oholiybamah the female-tent-continuer of Anah, the female-tent-continuer of Tsibon, the Chivviy; and Bosmath, Yishmael’s female-tent-continuer, female-strong-protector of Nebayoth. Ode produced to Esav Eliyphaz. Bosmath produced Reuel. Oholiybamah produced Yeush, Yalam, and Qorach. These are the male-tent-continuers of Esav, who were produced to him in the land of Kanon. Esav took his women, his male-tent-continuers, his female-tent-continuers, and all the breathing-throats of his household, with his livestock, all his animals, and all his possessions, which he had gathered in the land of Kanon, and went into a land away from his male-strong-protector Eoqub. For their substance was too great for them to dwell together, and the land of their travels couldn’t bear them because of their livestock. Esav filled-the-stomach in the hill country of Seiyr. Esav is Edom.
This is the history of the circles-of-men of Esav the tent-supporter of Edom in the hill country of Seiyr: these are the names of Esav’s male-tent-continuers: Eliyphaz, the male-tent-continuer of Ode, the woman of Esav; and Reuel, the male-tent-continuer of Bosmath, the woman of Esav. The male-tent-continuers of Eliyphaz were Teyman, Omar, Tsepho, and Gatam, and Qenaz. Yet Timna had-come-to-be a concubine of Eliyphaz, Esav’s male-tent-continuer; and she produced Amaleq to Eliyphaz. These are the male-tent-continuers of Ode, Esav’s woman. These are the male-tent-continuers of Reuel: Nachath, Zarach, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the male-tent-continuers of Bosmath, Esav’s woman. These are the male-tent-continuers of Seiyr the Choriy, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, Shobal, Tsibon, Anah, Diyshon, Etser, and Diyshan. These are the chiefs who came of the Choriy, the tent-builders of Seiyr in the land of Edom. The tent-builders of Lotan were Choriy and Heyman. Lotan’s female-strong-protector was Timna. These are the tent-builders of Shobal: Alvan, Manachath, Eybal, Shepho, and Onam. These are the tent-builders of Tsibon: Ayah and Anah. This is Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, as he fed the donkeys of Tsibon his tent-supporter. These are the tent-builders of Anah: Diyshon and Oholiybamah, the female-tent-continuer of Anah. These are the tent-builders of Diyshon: Chemdan, Eshban, Yithran, and Keran. These are the tent-builders of Etser: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Aqan. These are the tent-builders of Diyshan: Uts and Aran. These are the male-authorities-that-guide-the-people who reigned in the land of Edom, before any male-authority-that-guides-the-people reigned over the tent-builders of Isharal. Bela, the male-tent-continuer of Beor, reigned in Edom. The name of his city was Dinhabah. Bela emptied-the-stomach, and Yobab, the male-tent-continuer of Zarach of Botsrah, reigned in his place. Yobab emptied-the-stomach, and Chusham of the land of the Teymaniy reigned in his place. Chusham emptied-the-stomach, and Hadad, the male-tent-continuer of Bedad, who struck Midyan in the field of Moab, reigned in his place. The name of his city was Aviyth. Hadad emptied-the-stomach, and Samlah of Masreqah reigned in his place. Samlah emptied-the-stomach, and Shaul of Rachabat by the river, reigned in his place. Shaul emptied-the-stomach, and Baal Chanan, the male-tent-continuer of Akbor reigned in his place. Baal Chanan the male-tent-continuer of Akbor emptied-the-stomach, and Chadar reigned in his place. The name of his city was Pau. His woman’s name was Meheytabel, the female-tent-continuer of Matred, the female-tent-continuer of Meyzahab.
These are the names of the chiefs who came from Esav, according to their families, after their places, and by their names: chief Timna, chief Alyah, chief Yetheth, chief Oholiybamah, chief Elah, chief Piynon, chief Qenaz, chief Teyman, chief Mibtsar, chief Magdiyel, and chief Iyram. These are the chiefs of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is Esav, the tent-supporter of Edom.
Genesis 37
Eoqub filled-the-stomach in the land of his tent-supporter’s travels, in the land of Kanon. This is the history of the circles-of-men of Eoqub. Yehoseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his male-strong-protectors. He was a boy with the male-tent-continuers of Bilhah and Zilpah, his tent-supporter’s women. Yehoseph brought a dysfunctional report of them to their tent-supporter. Now Isharal cared-for-the-gift-of Yehoseph more than all his tent-builders, because he was the male-tent-continuer of his old age, and he made him a coat of many colors. His male-strong-protectors saw that their tent-supporter cared-for-the-gift-of him more than all his male-strong-protectors, and they hated him, and couldn’t speak peaceably to him.
Yehoseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his male-strong-protectors, and they hated him all the more. He said to them, Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and behold, your sheaves came around, and flattened-themselves to my sheaf.
His male-strong-protectors said to him, Will you indeed reign over us? Or will you indeed have dominion over us? They hated him all the more for his dreams and for his words. He dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his male-strong-protectors, and said, Behold, I have dreamed yet another dream: and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars flattened-themselves to me. He told it to his tent-supporter and to his male-strong-protectors. His tent-supporter rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Will I and your strong-womb and your male-strong-protectors indeed come to flatten-ourselves to you to the land? His male-strong-protectors envied him, but his tent-supporter kept this saying in mind.
His male-strong-protectors went to feed their tent-supporter’s flock in Shekem. Isharal said to Yehoseph, Aren’t your male-strong-protectors feeding the flock in Shekem? Come, and I will send you to them. He said to him, Here I am.
He said to him, Go now, see whether it is well with your male-strong-protectors, and well with the flock; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Chebron, and he came to Shekem. A certain man found him, and behold, he was wandering in the field. The man asked him, What are you looking for?
He said, I am looking for my male-strong-protectors. Tell me, please, where they are feeding the flock.
The man said, They have left here, for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothayin.
Yehoseph went after his male-strong-protectors, and found them in Dothayin. They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. They said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes. Come now therefore, and let’s kill him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, A dysfunctional animal has devoured him. We will see what will become of his dreams.
Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand, and said, Let’s not strike his breathing throat. Reuben said to them, Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him—that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his tent-supporter. It happened, when Yehoseph came to his male-strong-protectors, that they stripped Yehoseph of his coat, the coat of many colors that was on him; and they took him, and threw him into the pit. The pit was empty. There was no water in it.
They sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and saw a caravan of Yishmaeliy was coming from Gilad, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Matsrim. Ieude said to his male-strong-protectors, What profit is it if we kill our male-strong-protector and conceal his blood? Come, and let’s sell him to the Yishmaeliy, and not let our hand be on him; for he is our male-strong-protector, our flesh. His male-strong-protectors listened to him. Midyaniy who were merchants passed by, and they drew and lifted up Yehoseph out of the pit, and sold Yehoseph to the Yishmaeliy for twenty pieces of silver. They brought Yehoseph into Matsrim.
Reuben returned to the pit; and saw that Yehoseph wasn’t in the pit; and he tore his clothes. He returned to his male-strong-protectors, and said, The tent-builder is no more; and I, where will I go? They took Yehoseph’s coat, and killed a male goat, and dipped the coat in the blood. They took the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their tent-supporter, and said, We have found this. Examine it, now, whether it is your male-tent-continuer’s coat or not.
He recognized it, and said, It is my male-tent-continuer’s coat. A dysfunctional animal has devoured him. Yehoseph is without doubt torn in pieces. Eoqub tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his male-tent-continuer many days. All his male-tent-continuers and all his female-tent-continuers rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. He said, For I will go down to the unseen-realm to my male-tent-continuer mourning. His tent-supporter wept for him. The Midyaniy sold him into Matsrim to Potiyphar, an officer of Paroh’s, the captain of the guard.
Genesis 38
It happened at that time, that Ieude went down from his male-strong-protectors, and visited a certain Adullamiy, whose name was Chiyrah. Ieude saw there a female-tent-continuer of a certain Kenaaniy whose name was Shua. He took her, and went in to her. She conceived, and produced a male-tent-continuer; and he named him Er. She conceived again, and produced a male-tent-continuer; and she named him Onan. She yet again produced a male-tent-continuer, and named him Shelach: and he was at Chezib, when she produced him. Ieude took a woman for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. Er, Ieude’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Ieue. Ieue killed him. Ieude said to Onan, Go in to your male-strong-protector’s woman, and perform the duty of a man’s male-strong-protector to her, and raise up seed to your male-strong-protector. Onan knew that the seed wouldn’t be his; and it happened, when he went in to his male-strong-protector’s woman, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his male-strong-protector. The thing which he did was dysfunctional in the sight of Ieue, and he killed him also. Then Ieude said to Tamar, his female-tent-continuer-in-law, Remain a widow in your tent-supporter’s house, until Shelach, my male-tent-continuer, is grown up; for he said, Lest he also empty-the-stomach, like his male-strong-protectors. Tamar went and filled-the-stomach in her tent-supporter’s house.
After many days, Shua’s female-tent-continuer, the woman of Ieude, emptied-the-stomach. Ieude was comforted, and went up to his sheepshearers to Timna, he and his friend Chiyrah, the Adullamiy. It was told Tamar, saying, Behold, your tent-supporter-in-law is going up to Timna to shear his sheep. She took off of her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the way to Timna; for she saw that Shelach was grown up, and she wasn’t given to him as a woman. When Ieude saw her, he thought that she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. He turned to her by the way, and said, Please come, let me come in to you, for he didn’t know that she was his female-tent-continuer-in-law.
She said, What will you give me, that you may come in to me?
He said, I will send you a young goat from the flock.
She said, Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?
He said, What pledge will I give you?
She said, Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.
He gave them to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him. She arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood. Ieude sent the young goat by the hand of his friend, the Adullamiy, to receive the pledge from the woman’s hand, but he didn’t find her. Then he asked the men of her place, saying, Where is the separated-female, that was at Enaim by the road?
They said, No separated-female had-come-to-be here.
He returned to Ieude, and said, I haven’t found her; and also the men of the place said, No separated-female had-come-to-be here. Ieude said, Let her keep it, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this young goat, and you haven’t found her.
It happened about three months later, that it was told Ieude, saying, Tamar, your female-tent-continuer-in-law, has played the prostitute; and moreover, behold, she is with tent-builder by prostitution.
Ieude said, Bring her out, and let her be burnt. When she was brought out, she sent to her tent-supporter-in-law, saying, By the man, whose these are, I am with tent-builder. She also said, Please discern whose are these—the signet, and the cords, and the staff.
Ieude acknowledged them, and said, She is more straight-pathed than I, because I didn’t give her to Shelach, my male-tent-continuer.
He knew her again no more. It happened in the time of her producing, that behold, twins were in her loins. When she produced, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, This came out first. It happened, as he drew back his hand, that behold, his male-strong-protector came out, and she said, Why have you made a breach for yourself? Therefore his name was called Parats. Afterward his male-strong-protector came out, that had the scarlet thread on his hand, and his name was called Zarach.
Genesis 39
Yehoseph was brought down to Matsrim. Potiyphar, an officer of Paroh’s, the captain of the guard, an Mitsriy, bought him from the hand of the Yishmaeliy that had brought him down there. Ieue was with Yehoseph, and he was a prosperous man. He was in the house of his strongest-lifebringer the Mitsriy. His strongest-lifebringer saw that Ieue was with him, and that Ieue made all that he did prosper in his hand. Yehoseph found encampment in his eyes. He ministered to him, and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. It happened from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that Ieue kneeled-to-give to the Mitsriy’s house for Yehoseph’s sake; and the kneeling-down-to-give of Ieue was on all that he had, in the house and in the field. He left all that he had in Yehoseph’s hand. He didn’t concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate.
Yehoseph was well-built and handsome. It happened after these things, that his strongest-lifebringer’s woman cast her eyes on Yehoseph; and she said, Lie with me.
But he refused, and said to his strongest-lifebringer’s woman, Behold, my strongest-lifebringer doesn’t know what is with me in the house, and he has put all that he has into my hand. He isn’t greater in this house than I, neither has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his woman. How then can I do this great wickedness, and miss-the-target against the Strongest-Yoked-Guide?
As she spoke to Yehoseph day by day, he didn’t listen to her, to lie by her, or to be with her. About this time, he went into the house to do his work, and there were none of the men of the house inside. She caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me!
He left his garment in her hand, and ran outside. When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had run outside, she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, Behold, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice. It happened, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and ran outside. She laid up his garment by her, until his strongest-lifebringer came home. She spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me, and it happened, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and ran outside.
It happened, when his strongest-lifebringer heard the words of his woman, which she spoke to him, saying, This is what your servant did to me, that his wrath was kindled. Yehoseph’s strongest-lifebringer took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the male-authority-that-guides-the-people’s prisoners were bound, and he was there in custody. But Ieue was with Yehoseph, and bent-his-neck to him, and gave him encampment in the eyes of the keeper of the prison. The keeper of the prison committed to Yehoseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever they did there, he was responsible for it. The keeper of the prison didn’t look after anything that was under his hand, because Ieue was with him; and that which he did, Ieue made it prosper.
Genesis 40
It happened after these things, that the butler of the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Matsrim and his baker offended their strongest-lifebringer, the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Matsrim. Paroh was nose-flared with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. He put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Yehoseph was bound. The captain of the guard assigned them to Yehoseph, and he took care of them. They stayed in prison many days. They both dreamed a dream, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the cupbearer and the baker of the male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Matsrim, who were bound in the prison. Yehoseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and saw that they were sad. He asked Paroh’s officers who were with him in custody in his strongest-lifebringer’s house, saying, Why do you look so sad today?
They said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it.
Yehoseph said to them, Don’t interpretations belong to the Strongest-Yoked-Guide? Please tell it to me.
The chief cupbearer told his dream to Yehoseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was in front of me, and in the vine were three branches. It was as though it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters produced ripe grapes. Paroh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Paroh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Paroh’s hand.
Yehoseph said to him, This is its interpretation: the three branches are three days. Within three more days, Paroh will lift up your head, and restore you to your office.
You will give Paroh’s cup into his hand, the way you did when you were his cupbearer. But remember me when it will be well with you, and please bend-your-neck to me, and make mention of me to Paroh, and bring me out of this house. For indeed, I was stolen away out of the land of the Ibriy, and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was functional, he said to Yehoseph, I also was in my dream, and behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head. In the uppermost basket there was all kinds of baked food for Paroh, and the flyers ate them out of the basket on my head.
Yehoseph answered, This is its interpretation. The three baskets are three days. Within three more days, Paroh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the flyers will eat your flesh from off you. It happened the third day, which was Paroh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. He restored the chief cupbearer to his position again, and he gave the cup into Paroh’s hand; but he hanged the chief baker, as Yehoseph had interpreted to them. Yet the chief cupbearer didn’t remember Yehoseph, but forgot him.
Genesis 41
It happened at the end of two full years, that Paroh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river. Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass. Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river. The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Paroh awoke. He slept and dreamed a second time: and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and functional. Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Paroh awoke, and behold, it was a dream. It happened in the morning that his wind was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Matsrim’s magicians and wise men. Paroh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Paroh.
Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Paroh, saying, I remember my faults today. Paroh was nose-flared with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker. We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted. It happened, as he interpreted to us, so it was: he restored me to my office, and he hanged him.
Then Paroh sent and called Yehoseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Paroh. Paroh said to Yehoseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.
Yehoseph answered Paroh, saying, It isn’t in me. the Strongest-Yoked-Guide will give Paroh an answer of completeness.
Paroh spoke to Yehoseph, In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river: and behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, fat and sleek. They fed in the marsh grass, and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Matsrim for ugliness. The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle, and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke. I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and functional: and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven functional heads of grain. I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.
Yehoseph said to Paroh, The dream of Paroh is one. What the Strongest-Yoked-Guide is about to do he has declared to Paroh. The seven functional cattle are seven years; and the seven functional heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one. The seven thin and ugly cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine. That is the thing which I spoke to Paroh. What the Strongest-Yoked-Guide is about to do he has shown to Paroh. Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Matsrim. There will arise after them seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Matsrim. The famine will consume the land, and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very weighty. The dream was doubled to Paroh, because the thing is established by the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide will shortly bring it to pass.
Now therefore let Paroh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Matsrim. Let Paroh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Matsrim’s produce in the seven plenteous years. Let them gather all the food of these functional years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Paroh for food in the cities, and let them keep it. The food will be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Matsrim; that the land not perish through the famine.
The thing was functional in the eyes of Paroh, and in the eyes of all his servants. Paroh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the wind of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide? Paroh said to Yehoseph, Because the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has shown you all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you. Paroh said to Yehoseph, Behold, I have set you over all the land of Matsrim. Paroh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Yehoseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck, and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, Bow the knee! He set him over all the land of Matsrim. Paroh said to Yehoseph, I am Paroh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Matsrim. Paroh called Yehoseph’s name Tsaphnath Paneach; and he gave him Asenath, the female-tent-continuer of Potiyphera priest of On as a woman. Yehoseph went out over the land of Matsrim.
Yehoseph was thirty years old when he stood before Paroh male-authority-that-guides-the-people of Matsrim. Yehoseph went out from the presence of Paroh, and went throughout all the land of Matsrim. In the seven plenteous years the land produced abundantly. He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Matsrim, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was around every city, he laid up in the same. Yehoseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number. To Yehoseph were produced two male-tent-continuers before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the female-tent-continuer of Potiyphera priest of On, produced for him. Yehoseph called the name of the firstborn Menashsheh, For, he said, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has made me forget all my toil, and all my tent-supporter’s house. The name of the second, he called Ephrayim: For the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.
The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Matsrim, came to an end. The seven years of famine began to come, just as Yehoseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Matsrim there was bread. When all the land of Matsrim was famished, the people cried to Paroh for bread, and Paroh said to all the Mitsriy, Go to Yehoseph. What he says to you, do. The famine was over all the face of the land. Yehoseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Mitsriy. The famine was severe in the land of Matsrim. All countries came into Matsrim, to Yehoseph, to buy grain, because the famine was holding fast in all the land.
Genesis 42
Now Eoqub saw that there was grain in Matsrim, and Eoqub said to his male-tent-continuers, Why do you look at one another? He said, Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Matsrim. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may fill-the-stomach, and not empty-the-stomach. Yehoseph’s ten male-strong-protectors went down to buy grain from Matsrim. But Eoqub didn’t send Binyamiyn, Yehoseph’s male-strong-protector, with his male-strong-protectors; for he said, Lest perhaps harm happen to him. The male-tent-continuers of Isharal came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Kanon. Yehoseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Yehoseph’s male-strong-protectors came, and flattened-themselves to him, nostrils to the land. Yehoseph saw his male-strong-protectors, and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and spoke roughly with them. He said to them, Where did you come from?
They said, From the land of Kanon to buy food.
Yehoseph recognized his male-strong-protectors, but they didn’t recognize him. Yehoseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed about them, and said to them, You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land.
They said to him, No, my strongest-lifebringer, but your servants have come to buy food. We are all one man’s male-tent-continuers; we are honest men. Your servants are not spies.
He said to them, No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land!
They said, We, your servants, are twelve male-strong-protectors, the male-tent-continuers of one man in the land of Kanon; and behold, the youngest is this day with our tent-supporter, and one is no more.
Yehoseph said to them, It is like I told you, saying, You are spies! By this you shall be tested. By the filled-stomach of Paroh, you shall not go out from here, unless your youngest male-strong-protector comes here. Send one of you, and let him get your male-strong-protector, and you shall be bound, that your words may be tested, whether there is firmness in you, or else by the filled-stomach of Paroh surely you are spies. He put them all together into custody for three days.
Yehoseph said to them the third day, Do this, and fill-the-stomach, for I flow-the-gut-before the Strongest-Yoked-Guide. If you are honest men, then let one of your male-strong-protectors be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses. Bring your youngest male-strong-protector to me; if your words are found supported, you won’t empty-the-stomach.
They did so. They said one to another, We are certainly guilty concerning our male-strong-protector, in that we saw the distress of his breathing-throat, when he sought encampment from us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us. Reuben answered them, saying, Didn’t I tell you, saying, Don’t miss-the-target against the tent-builder, and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required. They didn’t know that Yehoseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them. He turned himself away from them, and wept. Then he returned to them, and spoke to them, and took Shimon from among them, and bound him before their eyes. Then Yehoseph gave a directive to fill their bags with grain, and to restore each man’s money into his sack, and to give them food for the way. So it was done to them.
They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there. As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack. He said to his male-strong-protectors, My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack! Their inner-guides failed them, and they turned trembling one to another, saying, What is this that the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has done to us? They came to Eoqub their tent-supporter, to the land of Kanon, and told him all that had happened to them, saying, The man, the strongest-lifebringer of the land, spoke roughly with us, and took us for spies of the country. We said to him, We are honest men. We are no spies. We are twelve male-strong-protectors, male-tent-continuers of our tent-supporter; one is no more, and the youngest is this day with our tent-supporter in the land of Kanon. The man, the strongest-lifebringer of the land, said to us, By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your male-strong-protectors with me, and take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way. Bring your youngest male-strong-protector to me. Then I will know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. So I will deliver your male-strong-protector to you, and you shall trade in the land.:
It happened as they emptied their sacks, that behold, each man’s bundle of money was in his sack. When they and their tent-supporter saw their bundles of money, they were afraid. Eoqub, their tent-supporter, said to them, You have bereaved me of my tent-builders! Yehoseph is no more, Shimon is no more, and you want to take Binyamiyn away. All these things are against me.
Reuben spoke to his tent-supporter, saying, Kill my two male-tent-continuers, if I don’t bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again.
He said, My male-tent-continuer shall not go down with you; for his male-strong-protector is stomach-emptied, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the unseen-realm.
Genesis 43
The famine was weighty in the land. It happened, when they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Matsrim, their tent-supporter said to them, Go again, buy us a little more food.
Ieude spoke to him, saying, The man solemnly warned us, saying, You shall not see my face, unless your male-strong-protector is with you. If you’ll send our male-strong-protector with us, we’ll go down and buy you food, but if you’ll not send him, we’ll not go down, for the man said to us, You shall not see my face, unless your male-strong-protector is with you.
Isharal said, Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another male-strong-protector?
They said, The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, Is your tent-supporter still stomach-filled? Have you another male-strong-protector? We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, Bring your male-strong-protector down?:
Ieude said to Isharal, his tent-supporter, Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may fill-the-stomach, and not empty-the-stomach, both we, and you, and also our little ones. I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame as long as I fill-the-stomach, for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.
Their tent-supporter, Isharal, said to them, If it must be so, then do this. Take from the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down a present for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts, and almonds; and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight. Take your male-strong-protector also, get up, and return to the man. May the Supreme Strong-Guide give moving-bowels to the man for you, that he may release to you your other male-strong-protector and Binyamiyn. If I am bereaved of my tent-builders, I am bereaved.
The men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Binyamiyn; and got up, went down to Matsrim, and stood before Yehoseph. When Yehoseph saw Binyamiyn with them, he said to the steward of his house, Bring the men into the house, and butcher an animal, and prepare; for the men will dine with me at noon.
The man did as Yehoseph directed, and the man brought the men to Yehoseph’s house. The men were afraid, because they were brought to Yehoseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys. They came near to the steward of Yehoseph’s house, and they spoke to him at the door of the house, and said, Oh, my strongest-lifebringer, we indeed came down the first time to buy food. When we came to the lodging place, we opened our sacks, and behold, each man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. We have brought it back in our hand. We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.
He said, Completeness be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your Strongest-Yoked-Guide, and the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of your tent-supporter, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money. He brought Shimon out to them. The man brought the men into Yehoseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet. He gave their donkeys fodder. They prepared the present for Yehoseph’s coming at noon, for they heard that he was about to dine there.
When Yehoseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and flattened-themselves to him to the land. He asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your tent-supporter well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he yet stomach-filled?
They said, Your servant, our tent-supporter, is well. He is still stomach-filled. They bowed-the-head and flattened-themselves. He lifted up his eyes, and saw Binyamiyn, his male-strong-protector, his strong-womb’s male-tent-continuer, and said, Is this your youngest male-strong-protector, of whom you spoke to me? He said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide encamp you, my male-tent-continuer. Yehoseph hurried, for his bowels were moving for his male-strong-protector; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there. He washed his face, and came out. He controlled himself, and said, Serve the meal.
They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Mitsriy, that ate with him, by themselves, because the Mitsriy don’t eat bread with the Ibriy, for that is an abomination to the Mitsriy. They sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth, and the men marveled one with another. He sent portions to them from before him, but Binyamiyn’s portion was five times as much as any of theirs. They drank, and were merry with him.
Genesis 44
He directed the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in his sack’s mouth. Puth my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, with his grain money. He did according to the word that Yehoseph had spoken. As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys. When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Yehoseph said to his steward, Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them, Why have you rewarded dysfunction for function? Isn’t this that from which my strongest-lifebringer drinks, and by which he indeed divines? You have done dysfunction in so doing. He overtook them, and he spoke these words to them.
They said to him, Why does my strongest-lifebringer speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants that they should do such a thing! Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again to you out of the land of Kanon. How then should we steal silver or gold out of your strongest-lifebringer’s house? With whomever of your servants it is found, let him empty-the-stomach, and we also will be my strongest-lifebringer’s bondservants.
He said, Now also let it be according to your words: he with whom it is found will be my bondservant; and you will be blameless.
Then they hurried, and each man took his sack down to the ground, and each man opened his sack. He searched, beginning with the eldest, and ending at the youngest. The cup was found in Binyamiyn’s sack. Then they tore their clothes, and each man loaded his donkey, and returned to the city.
Ieude and his male-strong-protectors came to Yehoseph’s house, and he was still there. They fell on the ground before him. Yehoseph said to them, What deed is this that you have done? Don’t you know that such a man as I can indeed divine?
Ieude said, What will we tell my strongest-lifebringer? What will we speak? Or how will we clear ourselves? The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has found out the iniquity of your servants. Behold, we are my strongest-lifebringer’s bondservants, both we, and he also in whose hand the cup is found.
He said, Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he will be my bondservant; but as for you, go up in completeness to your tent-supporter.
Then Ieude came near to him, and said, Oh, my strongest-lifebringer, please let your servant speak a word in my strongest-lifebringer’s ears, and don’t let your nose-flaring burn against your servant; for you are even as Paroh. My strongest-lifebringer asked his servants, saying, Have you a tent-supporter, or a male-strong-protector? We said to my strongest-lifebringer, We have a tent-supporter, an old man, and a tent-builder of his old age, a little one; and his male-strong-protector is stomach-emptied, and he alone is left of his strong-womb; and his tent-supporter cares-for-the-gift-of him. You said to your servants, Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes on him. We said to my strongest-lifebringer, The boy can’t leave his tent-supporter: for if he should leave his tent-supporter, his tent-supporter would empty-the-stomach. You said to your servants, Unless your youngest male-strong-protector comes down with you, you will see my face no more. It happened when we came up to your servant my tent-supporter, we told him the words of my strongest-lifebringer. Our tent-supporter said, Go again, buy us a little food. We said, We can’t go down. If our youngest male-strong-protector is with us, then we will go down: for we may not see the man’s face, unless our youngest male-strong-protector is with us. Your servant, my tent-supporter, said to us, You know that my woman produced two male-tent-continuers for me: and the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I haven’t seen him since. If you take this one also from me, and harm happens to him, you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the unseen-realm. Now therefore when I come to your servant my tent-supporter, and the boy is not with us; since his breathing-throat is bound up in the boy’s breathing-throat; it will happen, when he sees that the boy is no more, that he will empty-the-stomach. Your servants will bring down the gray hairs of your servant, our tent-supporter, with sorrow to the unseen-realm. For your servant became collateral for the boy to my tent-supporter, saying, If I don’t bring him to you, then I will bear the blame to my tent-supporter the rest of my filled-stomach. Now therefore, please let your servant stay instead of the boy, a bondservant to my strongest-lifebringer; and let the boy go up with his male-strong-protectors. For how will I go up to my tent-supporter, if the boy isn’t with me?—lest I see the dysfunction that will come on my tent-supporter.
Genesis 45
Then Yehoseph couldn’t control himself before all those who stood before him, and he cried, Cause everyone to go out from me! No one else stood with him, while Yehoseph made himself known to his male-strong-protectors. He wept aloud. The Mitsriy heard, and the house of Paroh heard. Yehoseph said to his male-strong-protectors, I am Yehoseph! Does my tent-supporter still fill-the-stomach?
His male-strong-protectors couldn’t answer him; for they were terrified at his presence. Yehoseph said to his male-strong-protectors, Come near to me, please.
They came near. He said, I am Yehoseph, your male-strong-protector, whom you sold into Matsrim. Now don’t be grieved, nor nose-flared with yourselves, that you sold me here, for the Strongest-Yoked-Guide sent me before you to preserve a filled-stomach. For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are yet five years, in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant in the land, and to deliver you stomach-filled by a great deliverance. So now it wasn’t you who sent me here, but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide, and he has made me a tent-supporter to Paroh, strongest-lifebringer of all his house, and ruler over all the land of Matsrim. Hurry, and go up to my tent-supporter, and tell him, This is what your male-tent-continuer Yehoseph says, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide has made me strongest-lifebringer of all Matsrim. Come down to me. Don’t wait. You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you will be near to me, you, your tent-builders, your tent-builders’s tent-builders, your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. There I will nourish you; for there are yet five years of famine; lest you come to poverty, you, and your household, and all that you have. Behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my male-strong-protector Binyamiyn, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. You shall tell my tent-supporter of all my weightiness in Matsrim, and of all that you have seen. You shall hurry and bring my tent-supporter down here. He fell on his male-strong-protector Binyamiyn’s neck, and wept, and Binyamiyn wept on his neck. He kissed all his male-strong-protectors, and wept on them. After that his male-strong-protectors talked with him.
The report of it was heard in Paroh’s house, saying, Yehoseph’s male-strong-protectors have come. It pleased Paroh well, and his servants. Paroh said to Yehoseph, Tell your male-strong-protectors, Do this. Load your animals, and go, travel to the land of Kanon. Take your tent-supporter and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the functional of the land of Matsrim, and you will eat the fat of the land. Now you are directed: do this. Take wagons out of the land of Matsrim for your little ones, and for your women, and bring your tent-supporter, and come. Also, don’t concern yourselves about your belongings, for the functional of all of the land of Matsrim is yours.
The male-tent-continuers of Isharal did so. Yehoseph gave them wagons, according to the directive of Paroh, and gave them provision for the way. He gave each one of them changes of clothing, but to Binyamiyn he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of clothing. He sent the following to his tent-supporter: ten donkeys loaded with the functional things of Matsrim, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and provision for his tent-supporter by the way. So he sent his male-strong-protectors away, and they departed. He said to them, See that you don’t quarrel on the way.
They went up out of Matsrim, and came into the land of Kanon, to Eoqub their tent-supporter. They told him, saying, Yehoseph is still stomach-filled, and he is ruler over all the land of Matsrim. His inner-guide fainted, for he didn’t support them. They told him all the words of Yehoseph, which he had said to them. When he saw the wagons which Yehoseph had sent to carry him, the wind of Eoqub, their tent-supporter, revived. Isharal said, It is enough. Yehoseph my male-tent-continuer is still stomach-filled. I will go and see him before I empty-the-stomach.
Genesis 46
Isharal traveled with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered slaughters to the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of his tent-supporter, Aisachaq. The Strongest-Yoked-Guide spoke to Isharal in the visions of the night, and said, Eoqub, Eoqub!
He said, Here I am.
He said, I am the Strong-Guide, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of your tent-supporter. Don’t be afraid to go down into Matsrim, for there I will make of you a great nation. I will go down with you into Matsrim. I will also surely bring you up again. Yehoseph will close your eyes.
Eoqub rose up from Beersheba, and the male-tent-continuers of Isharal carried Eoqub, their tent-supporter, their little ones, and their women, in the wagons which Paroh had sent to carry him. They took their livestock, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Kanon, and came into Matsrim—Eoqub, and all his seed with him, his male-tent-continuers, and his male-tent-continuers’ male-tent-continuers with him, his female-tent-continuers, and his male-tent-continuers’ female-tent-continuers, and he brought all his seed with him into Matsrim.
These are the names of the tent-builders of Isharal, who came into Matsrim, Eoqub and his male-tent-continuers: Reuben, Eoqub’s firstborn. The male-tent-continuers of Reuben: Chanuk, Pallu, Chetsrun, and Karmiy. The male-tent-continuers of Shimon: Yemuel, Yamiyn, Ohad, Yakiyn, Tsochar, and Shaul the male-tent-continuer of a Kenaaniy woman. The male-tent-continuers of Leviy: Gershon, Qehath, and Merariy. The male-tent-continuers of Ieude: Er, Onan, Shelach, Parats, and Zarach; but Er and Onan emptied-the-stomach in the land of Kanon. The male-tent-continuers of Parats were Chetsrun and Chamul. The male-tent-continuers of Yissaskar: Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron. The male-tent-continuers of Zebulun: Sered, Eylon, and Yachleel. These are the male-tent-continuers of Leah, whom she produced for Eoqub in Paddan Aram, with his female-tent-continuer Diynah. All the breathing-throats of his male-tent-continuers and his female-tent-continuers were thirty-three. The male-tent-continuers of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuniy, Etsbon, Eriy, Arodi, and Areliy. The male-tent-continuers of Asher: Yimnah, Yishvah, Yishviy, Beriyah, and Serach their female-strong-protector. The male-tent-continuers of Beriyah: Cheber and Malkiyel. These are the male-tent-continuers of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah, his female-tent-continuer, and these she produced for Eoqub, even sixteen breathing-throats. The male-tent-continuers of Rachel, Eoqub’s woman: Yehoseph and Binyamiyn. To Yehoseph in the land of Matsrim were produced Menashsheh and Ephrayim, whom Asenath, the female-tent-continuer of Potiyphera, priest of On, produced for him. The male-tent-continuers of Binyamiyn: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppiym, Chuppiym, and Ard. These are the male-tent-continuers of Rachel, who were produced for Eoqub: all the breathing-throats were fourteen. The male-tent-continuer of Dan: Hushim. The male-tent-continuers of Naphtaliy: Yachtseel, Guniy, Yetser, and Shillem. These are the male-tent-continuers of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel, his female-tent-continuer, and these she produced for Eoqub: all the breathing-throats were seven. All the breathing-throats who came with Eoqub into Matsrim, who were his direct descendants, besides Eoqub’s male-tent-continuers’ women, all the breathing-throats were sixty-six. The male-tent-continuers of Yehoseph, who were produced for him in Matsrim, were two breathing-throats. All the breathing-throats of the house of Eoqub, who came into Matsrim, were seventy.
He sent Ieude before him to Yehoseph, to show the way before him to Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen. Yehoseph prepared his chariot, and went up to meet Isharal, his tent-supporter, in Goshen. He presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a long while. Isharal said to Yehoseph, Now let me empty-the-stomach, since I have seen your face, that you are still stomach-filled.
Yehoseph said to his male-strong-protectors, and to his tent-supporter’s house, I will go up, and speak with Paroh, and will tell him, My male-strong-protectors, and my tent-supporter’s house, who were in the land of Kanon, have come to me. These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have. It will happen, when Paroh summons you, and will say, What is your occupation? that you shall say, Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our tent-supporters: that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Mitsriy.
Genesis 47
Then Yehoseph went in and told Paroh, and said, My tent-supporter and my male-strong-protectors, with their flocks, their herds, and all that they own, have come out of the land of Kanon; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen. From among his male-strong-protectors he took five men, and presented them to Paroh. Paroh said to his male-strong-protectors, What is your occupation?
They said to Paroh, Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our tent-supporters. They said to Paroh, We have come to fill-the-stomach as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks. For the famine is weighty in the land of Kanon. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.
Paroh spoke to Yehoseph, saying, Your tent-supporter and your male-strong-protectors have come to you. The land of Matsrim is before you. Make your tent-supporter and your male-strong-protectors dwell in the best of the land. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen. If you know any able men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.
Yehoseph brought in Eoqub, his tent-supporter, and set him before Paroh, and Eoqub kneeled-to-give to Paroh. Paroh said to Eoqub, How many are the days of the years of your filled-stomach?
Eoqub said to Paroh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred thirty years. Few and dysfunctional have been the days of the years of my filled-stomach, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the filled-stomach of my tent-supporters in the days of their pilgrimage. Eoqub kneeled-to-give to Paroh, and went out from the presence of Paroh.
Yehoseph placed his tent-supporter and his male-strong-protectors, and gave them a possession in the land of Matsrim, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Paroh had directed. Yehoseph nourished his tent-supporter, his male-strong-protectors, and all of his tent-supporter’s household, with bread, according to their families.
There was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very weighty, so that the land of Matsrim and the land of Kanon fainted by reason of the famine. Yehoseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Matsrim, and in the land of Kanon, for the grain which they bought: and Yehoseph brought the money into Paroh’s house. When the money was all spent in the land of Matsrim, and in the land of Kanon, all the Mitsriy came to Yehoseph, and said, Give us bread, for why should we empty-the-stomach in your presence? For our money fails.
Yehoseph said, Give me your livestock; and I will give you food for your livestock, if your money is gone.
They brought their livestock to Yehoseph, and Yehoseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the donkeys: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock for that year. When that year was ended, they came to him the second year, and said to him, We will not hide from my strongest-lifebringer how our money is all spent, and the herds of livestock are my strongest-lifebringer’s. There is nothing left in the sight of my strongest-lifebringer, but our bodies, and our lands. Why should we empty-the-stomach before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Paroh. Give us seed, that we may fill-the-stomach, and not empty-the-stomach, and that the land won’t be desolate.
So Yehoseph bought all the land of Matsrim for Paroh, for every man of the Mitsriy sold his field, because the famine was severe on them, and the land became Paroh’s. As for the people, he moved them to the cities from one end of the border of Matsrim even to the other end of it. Only he didn’t buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Paroh, and ate their portion which Paroh gave them. That is why they didn’t sell their land. Then Yehoseph said to the people, Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Paroh. Behold, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. It will happen at the harvests, that you shall give a fifth to Paroh, and four parts will be your own, for seed of the field, for your food, for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
They said, You have delivered our our filled-stomachs! Let us find encampment in the eyes of my strongest-lifebringer, and we will be Paroh’s servants.
Yehoseph made it a statute concerning the land of Matsrim to this day, that Paroh should have the fifth. Only the land of the priests alone had not come-to-be Paroh’s.
Isharal filled-the-stomach in the land of Matsrim, in the land of Goshen; and they got themselves possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly. Eoqub filled-the-stomach in the land of Matsrim seventeen years. So the days of Eoqub, the years of his filled-stomach, were one hundred forty-seven years. The time drew near that Isharal must empty-the-stomach, and he called his male-tent-continuer Yehoseph, and said to him, If now I have found encampment in your eyes, please put your hand under my thigh, and bend-your-neck and act in firmness with me. Please don’t bury me in Matsrim, but when I sleep with my tent-supporters, you shall carry me out of Matsrim, and bury me in their burying place.
He said, I will do as you have said.
He said, Swear to me, and he swore to him. Isharal flattened-himself on the head of the bed.
Genesis 48
It happened after these things, that someone said to Yehoseph, Behold, your tent-supporter is sick. He took with him his two male-tent-continuers, Menashsheh and Ephrayim. Someone told Eoqub, and said, Behold, your male-tent-continuer Yehoseph comes to you, and Isharal strengthened himself, and sat on the bed. Eoqub said to Yehoseph, The Supreme Strong-Guide appeared to me at Luz in the land of Kanon, and kneeled-to-give to me, and said to me, Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your seed after you for a horizonal possession. Now your two male-tent-continuers, who were produced for you in the land of Matsrim before I came to you into Matsrim, are mine; Ephrayim and Menashsheh, even as Reuben and Shimon, will be mine. Your issue, whom you produce after them, will be yours. They will be called after the name of their male-strong-protectors in their inheritance. As for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel emptied-the-stomach by me in the land of Kanon in the way, when there was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beyth Lechem).
Isharal saw Yehoseph’s male-tent-continuers, and said, Who are these?
Yehoseph said to his tent-supporter, They are my male-tent-continuers, whom the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has given me here.
He said, Please bring them to me, and I will kneel-to-give to them. Now the eyes of Isharal were weighty with age, so that he couldn’t see. He brought them near to him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. Isharal said to Yehoseph, I didn’t think I would see your face, and behold, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide has let me see your seed also. Yehoseph brought them out from between his knees, and he flattened-himself with his nostrils to the land. Yehoseph took them both, Ephrayim in his right hand toward Isharal’s left hand, and Menashsheh in his left hand toward Isharal’s right hand, and brought them near to him. Isharal stretched out his right hand, and laid it on Ephrayim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Menashsheh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Menashsheh was the firstborn. He kneeled-to-give to Yehoseph, and said, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide before whom my tent-supporters Abarem and Aisachaq walked, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide who has fed me for all my filled-stomach to this day, the messenger who has redeemed me from all dysfunction, kneel-to-give to the lads, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my tent-supporters Abarem and Aisachaq. Let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the land.
When Yehoseph saw that his tent-supporter laid his right hand on the head of Ephrayim, it displeased him. He held up his tent-supporter’s hand, to remove it from Ephrayim’s head to Menashsheh’s head. Yehoseph said to his tent-supporter, Not so, my tent-supporter; for this is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.
His tent-supporter refused, and said, I know, my male-tent-continuer, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger male-strong-protector will be greater than he, and his seed will become a multitude of nations. He kneeled-to-give to them that day, saying, In you will Isharal kneel-to-give to give, saying, the Strongest-Yoked-Guide make you as Ephrayim and as Menashsheh’ He set Ephrayim before Menashsheh. Isharal said to Yehoseph, Behold, I am emptying-the-stomach, but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide will be with you, and bring you again to the land of your tent-supporters. Moreover I have given to you one portion above your male-strong-protectors, which I took out of the hand of the Emoriy with my sword and with my bow.
Genesis 49
Eoqub called to his male-tent-continuers, and said: Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which will happen to you in the days to come.
Assemble yourselves, and hear, you male-tent-continuers of Eoqub. Listen to Isharal, your tent-supporter.
Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength; excelling in dignity, and excelling in power. Boiling over as water, you shall not excel; because you went up to your tent-supporter’s bed, then defiled it. He went up to my couch.
Shimon and Leviy are male-strong-protectors. Their swords are weapons of violence. My breathing-throat, don’t come into their council. My weightiness, don’t be united to their joint-conspiracy; for in their nose-flaring they killed men. In their self-will they hamstrung cattle. Cursed be their nose-flaring, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Eoqub, and scatter them in Isharal.
Ieude, your male-strong-protectors will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your tent-supporter’s male-tent-continuers will flatten-themselves before you. Ieude is a lion’s cub. From the prey, my male-tent-continuer, you have gone up. He bowed-down, he crouched as a lion, as a lioness. Who will rouse him up? The scepter will not depart from Ieude, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the listening of the peoples be. Binding his foal to the vine, his donkey’s colt to the choice vine; he has washed his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes will be red with wine, his teeth white with milk.
Zebulun will dwell at the haven of the sea. He will be for a haven of boats. His border will be on Tsiydon.
Yissaskar is a strong donkey, lying down between the saddlebags. He saw a resting place, that it was functional, the land, that it was pleasant. He bows his shoulder to the burden, and becomes a servant doing forced labor.
Dan will judge his people, as one of the tribes of Isharal. Dan will be a serpent in the way, an adder in the path, That bites the horse’s heels, so that his rider falls backward. I have waited for your deliverance, Ieue.
A troop will press on Gad, but he will press on their heel.
Asher’s food will be rich. He will yield royal dainties.
Naphtaliy is a doe set free, who bears beautiful fawns.
Yehoseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine by a spring. His branches run over the wall. The archers have severely grieved him, shot at him, and persecute him:
But his bow remained strong. The arms of his hands were made strong, by the hands of the Strong-Guide of Eoqub, (from there is the shepherd, the stone of Isharal), even by the the Strong-Guide of your tent-supporter, who will help you; by the Supreme-One, who will kneel-to-give to you, with the things kneeled down and given of the sky above, things kneeled down and given of the watery deep that lie below, things kneeled down and given of the breasts, and of the moving-bowel. The things kneeled down and given of your tent-supporter have prevailed above the things kneeled down and given of your ancestors, above the boundaries of the ancient hills. They will be on the head of Yehoseph, on the crown of the head of him who is separated from his male-strong-protectors.
Binyamiyn is a ravenous wolf. In the morning he will devour the prey. At evening he will divide the spoil.
All these are the twelve tribes of Isharal, and this is what their tent-supporter spoke to them and kneeled-to-give to them. He kneeled-to-give to everyone according to his kneeling-down-to-give. He instructed them, and said to them, I am to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my tent-supporters in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Chittiy, in the cave that is in the field of Makpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Kanon, which Abarem bought with the field from Ephron the Chittiy as a burial place. There they buried Abarem and Sarah, his woman. There they buried Aisachaq and Ribqah, his woman, and there I buried Leah: the field and the cave that is therein, which was purchased from the tent-builders of Cheth. When Eoqub made an end of charging his male-tent-continuers, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the wind, and was gathered to his people.
Genesis 50
Yehoseph fell on his tent-supporter’s face, wept on him, and kissed him. Yehoseph directed his servants, the physicians, to embalm his tent-supporter; and the physicians embalmed Isharal. Forty days were fulfilled for him, for that is how many the days it takes to embalm. The Mitsriy wept for him for seventy days.
When the days of weeping for him were past, Yehoseph spoke to the house of Paroh, saying, If now I have found encampment in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Paroh, saying, My tent-supporter made me swear, saying, Behold, I am emptying-the-stomach. Bury me in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Kanon. Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my tent-supporter, and I will come again.
Paroh said, Go up, and bury your tent-supporter, just like he made you swear.
Yehoseph went up to bury his tent-supporter; and with him went up all the servants of Paroh, the elders of his house, all the elders of the land of Matsrim, all the house of Yehoseph, his male-strong-protectors, and his tent-supporter’s house. Only their little ones, their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. There went up with him both chariots and horsemen. It was an exceedingly weighty company. They came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Yarden, and there they lamented with an exceedingly great and weighty lamentation. He mourned for his tent-supporter seven days. When the inhabitants of the land, the Kenaaniy, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a weighty mourning by the Mitsriy. Therefore, its name was called Ebal Matsrim, which is beyond the Yarden. His male-tent-continuers did to him just as he directed them, for his male-tent-continuers carried him into the land of Kanon, and buried him in the cave of the field of Makpelah, which Abarem bought with the field, for a possession of a burial site, from Ephron the Chittiy, before Mamre. Yehoseph returned into Matsrim—he, and his male-strong-protectors, and all that went up with him to bury his tent-supporter, after he had buried his tent-supporter.
When Yehoseph’s male-strong-protectors saw that their tent-supporter was stomach-emptied, they said, It may be that Yehoseph will hate us, and will fully pay us back for all of the dysfunction which we did to him. They sent a message to Yehoseph, saying, Your tent-supporter directed before he emptied-the-stomach, saying, You shall tell Yehoseph, Now please lift-off the disobedience of your male-strong-protectors, and their missed-target, because they did dysfunction to you. Now, please lift-off the disobedience of the servants of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide of your tent-supporter. Yehoseph wept when they spoke to him. His male-strong-protectors also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we are your servants. Yehoseph said to them, Don’t be afraid, for am I in the place of the Strongest-Yoked-Guide? As for you, you meant what is dysfunctional against me, but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide meant it for what is functional, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to deliver many people stomach-filled. Now therefore don’t be afraid. I will nourish you and your little ones. He comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.
Yehoseph filled-the-stomach in Matsrim, he, and his tent-supporter’s house. Yehoseph filled-the-stomach one hundred ten years. Yehoseph saw Ephrayim’s tent-builders to the third circle-of-men. The tent-builders also of Makiyr, the male-tent-continuer of Menashsheh, were produced on Yehoseph’s knees. Yehoseph said to his male-strong-protectors, I am emptying-the-stomach, but the Strongest-Yoked-Guide will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land to the land which he swore to Abarem, to Aisachaq, and to Eoqub. Yehoseph took an oath of the tent-builders of Isharal, saying, The Strongest-Yoked-Guide will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here. So Yehoseph emptied-the-stomach, being one hundred ten years old, and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Matsrim.
